Tintwizard is asking for a name to save the file as
« on: February 09, 2011, 04:41:06 PM »
I am using the Astronomy Edition of Openbox and I have installed Tint Wizard, but when I try to save my changes.... Tint Wizard is asking for a name for the file and where to save it.

What I am trying to configure is:

1. the clock to display in 12 hour format with am/pm display

2. the wallpaper back to the Astronomy Edition, somehow it got changed to the OpenBox blue background.

Thank you  in advance.  :D

The Astronomy Edition uses nitrogen for wallpaper - go to Applications/More Applications/Configuration in your right-click menu.  If you want to change the wallpaper remember that nitrogen only uses .png files.

Tintwizard is wanting to locate its config file.  Go to your home folder, check "show hidden files", and open the folder called /.config. There should be a folder called Tint, or something like that.  Also make sure that the autostart.sh file in /.config/openbox is configured for Tint.

I was having problems with Thunar not displaying an icon for my Windows partition so I installed pcmanfm.  It appears that pcmanfm might of created a config file which is overlaying the Openbox wallpaper on top of the Astronomy Edition wallpaper.  Because I can see the Astronomy Edition wallpaper under the transparent taskbar and behind the utility, that shows the cpu load and network load, on the right side of the desktop.
If I could remember the name of the utility to take a snap shot of the desktop, then I could post a pic for you to see what I mean.

Try either setting PCManFM to not run at startup, or, if you want it to run, to run with the --desktop-off option, as this will stop PCManFM from managing the desktop, and therefore the wallpaper in extension. ;)

Where do I configure pcmanfm not to run at startup or place the "--desktop-off" option?

Try the instructions located in this post by Neal: http://www.pclinuxos.com/forum/index.php/topic,78902.msg651350.html#msg651350

Look in /home/<you>/.config/pcmanfm/ for the file main.lxde. Open it with leafpad and comment out the line
Code: [Select]
show_wallpaper=1
It will appear as -
Code: [Select]
#show_wallpaper=1
This will stop PCManFM from controlling your desktop.

Looking in /home/<you>/.config/pcmanfm/  there is only a folder titled "default" with two text documents.

desktop-items-0.conf
pcmanfm.conf

The reason I use Thunar is that I can configure it as a proper list (too used to the old Mac system 7!), and for the scripting addons that can be applied.  I don't run any Windows partitions, so didn't realise this issue.  If you install "pysdm" through Synaptic, and launch it as "su pysdm" in terminal, you should be able to mount your Windows partition.  I haven't tried it yet; I may have to create a vbox install to test!  Then remove pcmanfm if you don't need it.  Let us know how you go.

[Edit]  Another option is to uninstall Thunar, and go to /.config/openbox/autostart.sh and uncomment the line "# /usr/bin/pcmanfm --desktop --daemon-mode &"; and comment out Nitrogen.  That will in fact take you back to a standard openbox install.

I've booted a live iso of Astronomy Edition in my vbox XP.  The 8) things you can do with vbox. I was going to do a dual boot but ran out of time.  However I tried two bits of software and would suggest installing "ntfs-config".  You launch it through terminal in su mode; it is quick and simple.  It will mount the Windows partition in /media.  Just open that folder in Thunar and drag the Windows folder to the shortcut side of Thunar - lower pane on the left.  You can then access it in rw mode.  You may have to do that on each reboot.  I couldn't get "pysdm" to quite do what I wanted because I couldn't reboot without losing my temporarily installed apps!! Give it a shot.  Really need to do that dual boot. :)

The other option is identify the drive and edit into /etc/fstab.  Bit more terminal work but plenty of info out there.

I have done a dualboot in vbox and can confirm that ntfs-config does the trick.  It also sticks.  I have posted this as a new topic so that others with Thunar can make use of this.

I also can confirm it works.  Thank you.  :)

Discovered another minor issue.  The audio volume is very low even after adjusting the volume to max with the volume icon in the task bar and using the function key and the up arrow key on my laptop.

Gnome Alsa Mixer should be installed and under the Applications/Audio category.  Launch it - if it gives an error message ignore that - and adjust your settings there.

Installed "ntfs-config"  Uninstalled "pcmanfm"

I guess I should change this topic to (Solved)  ;D

Installing Gnome ALSA mixer did the trick,  had to adjust the slider labeled "front".  Now the sound is fine.
