email address showing

Hi,
I  just noticed in a thread that my email address is showing, though it's disabled in my preferences. There's an envelope icon under my name, and hovering shows my address. Am I the only one seeing it? That would seem a strange feature.

Thanks, Terry. Why on earth would a user want to see his own address? I'm impressed with SMF, and was thinking of recommending it to another site I visit. But this is a strange setting.

I see I'm not the first to question this design: http://www.simplemachines.org/community/index.php?topic=107306.msg738395#msg738395. But in all these years, nothing was changed.

Many of us have several addresses, some 'private' others 'disposable'.  Those of us with a little bit too much seniority might just once in a while forget which one we used for pclos........

Why on earth would a user want to see his own address?

Many have multiple addresses, and use them for various sites,  This makes it easy to check that you have the right one entered.

I was asking the very same question about 2 years ago... . I am not accusing You of not trying to find the answer coz post is loooong time gone. I am just recalling events from a distant future !
