Transfer files between computers using SSH and Dolphin (Easy!)

1. In Dolphin, Right click an empty spot on the "Places" sidebar and click "Add Entry..."
2. Give the place a name in the "Label" box
3. In the location box, type fish://user@ipaddress where "user" is the a username on the remote machine and "ipaddress" is that machine's ip address (ex: 192.168.0.1)
4. Click Ok
Done!

You can now user that computer like any other external drive or folder in Dolphin.

This is so timely!  I have a machine running XBMC live.  It doesn't have any native gui apps, so using a remote X conmmand like ssh -Y would still only let me do command line functions.  This lets me do GUI file operations from my desktop.

Please allow me to chime in with my favorite ssh file transfer method, the SFTP feature of the most excellent Filezilla, with its ability to resume broken transfers of very large files and incredible reliability. It's far easier to set up than Samba and NFS, too (although it does have the drawback of needing to set up ssh on Windows if you go Linux-to-Win - but not Win-to-Lin).

Here's a Site Manager snapshot:
