Driver for an HP Laserjet Series II [Solved . . well, almost]

I've posted this problem before and was also lucky enough to get a reply (from Ed DeBaas) which worked. Stupidly, I didn't save the details (well, you can't save everything, can you?   ), which then got lost in that forum-server crash a few moons back.  So..., here goes again.

I've got an HP Laserjet Series II printer (parallel port) but can't find a driver for it. Has anyone out there had a similar problem and solved it; if so, how? Seems a shame to have to throw the printer away. I'm using gnome 2010.

And, Ed, it would be great if you could remember what the solution was, last time   .

Install task-printing and task-printing-hp
From PCC install your printer manually !!! local printer
default to /dev/lp0
do NOT use HPLIP
in the printerlist search for HP  > Laserjet 2 (this is not exactly alphabetical, scroll down)
choose the desired driver, settings and you are done.

Thanks, Ed, almost there . It certainly prints, but the test page comes out on three separate pages - each section in the correct place on each page, interestingly enough. If I remember correctly, last time I had to modify some settings on the printer itself, but in the meantime its user-manual has disappeared. Before I invest possibly hours trying to find the correct settings, just thought I'd ask: don't know off-hand what these are, do you? Thanks, once again.

No problem, I must have just been lucky last time, because it appears to be a memory (insufficient   ) problem  . Am now looking for an expansion-card, see if that improves things. Thanks a million for the driver-info, anyway.
