{SOLVED}Where has the Flash temp been moved?
« on: February 09, 2011, 11:41:51 AM »
Um after up dating flash and that last update I have noticed that when I play a Flash Vid in my browser it not longer is cashed in my root "/tmp/" folder I always just useed this cashed copy if I wanted to dub something or use what you are leagly aloud to for paradee of comment.

Can some one tell me where the cash folder for Flash vids has been moved? I know they have got to be on the system some where for it to play them.

.....

never mind I found where it is it is in the Browsers catch/temp fold. Odd to move it though I guess we are supposed to pretend the files are not on our system.

On my system at least for FireFox it is

/home/'myusername"/.mozilla/firefox/"that random hex numer".default/Cache/

for Chromium

/home/'myusername"/.cache/chromium/Cache/

The highlighted parts will vary by system and and the path will be different per browser do to it now being in the browser temp instead of the system one.

OK , I found it ( as highlighted in the quote. )  Also it is now named differently (  04CE4BD1d01 ) instead of FlashXXNQvl3x

Thank You !

Hi,
Glad you found it because I've heard the latest version of flash (10.2) marks the cached flash file as deleted in the tmp folder. Source: http://www.webupd8.org/2011/02/play-youtube-videos-without-flash-from.html I'm much more satisfied with the performance of flash since upgrading to 10.2, so now I don't have a need to hunt down the cached flash files to play them offline.  :D

Hi, I'm not sure. Here's a forum post talking how to view the hidden flash videos though.
http://www.reddit.com/r/linux/comments/fi7e6/flash_102_upgrade_and_flash_file_storage/

Flash 10.1 can be reinstalled again if necessary, but it will be lacking the hardware acceleration improvements that come with 10.2. http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/142/tn_14266.html (link fixed, or see synaptic instructions below by lightning slinger) . After downloading the archive, you will need to extract the libflashplayer.so plugin from the package and use it to replace the libflashplayer.so on your system.

You get it from synaptic!!!
Open Synaptic>Select flashplayer>Package>Force Version>Select lower version from drop-down menu!

Hi lightning slinger , many many thanks for that, never even heard of that facility before, all working nicely now.
I will have to have a deeper delve into Synaptic
Cheers
