[ SOLVED ] Pidgin Window Size

Lately I have noticed that there appears to be a minimum width set for the Pidgin IM window.
I can widen the window but I cannot reduce the width beyond what appears to be a preset width.

Is this a general setting or just applicable to my install?

If it is a general setting is there any way that I can make the width adjustable below this 'pre-set' width?

At least I discovered what is causing my 'problem'.

The window must stay wide enough to display the formatting and other buttons above the text input area. So I guess the more buttons one has there, the wider the minimum width of the window will be.

So I disabled the 'Off the Record' plugin and gained the ability to reduce the width by the amount its button was taking up.

If I could find a means of getting rid of the 'Attention' and 'Insert' buttons, while retaining the 'Font' and 'Smilies' buttons, that would be more useful to me.

Its global. I use pidgin over 2 years now and its always been like that.

To be honest - if the window gets any smaller - it looks awful anyway.

Its not a problem for me. More of a feature .

Yes, until you use some plugins which add buttons, which in turn makes the window wider ....  and wider ... and the only solution is to disable those plugins to allow the window to narrow again.

Have You tried grouping the buttons? If You right click on the buttons bar there is an option to do so. Unless its already grouped.them...

What DE is it? KDE?

Right click on the top window bar, the one with Close, Minimize, Maximize buttons. Choose Advanced > Special Window Settings. Now in there go to the Size on the Geometry tab. Check the box next to the Size entry and choose Force from dropdown menu. Now change the first entry from 475 to lets say 375 or 275 - whatever floats Your boat - and ok the window.

No idea how to reach this goal in any other DE.

Yes ......  it is KDE. Thank you. Never thought of forcing the size from there   Duh!

Unfortunately the plugin buttons do not scale, but overwrite each other so the only workable solution is to reduce the plugins that provide buttons if the size required is less than the space taken by the buttons.

Maybe .....  but it is not of sufficient importance to bother doing anything with them, from my perspective.
