no boot solved
« on: February 07, 2011, 10:13:40 AM »
I just tried to reinstall PCLinuxOS2010.  I made this CD last year and installed with no difficulties. The Live CD works fine and everything installs, I run the update as instructed on this web site.  After the update completes, a DOS prompt comes up asking for host name and password.  If I reboot in normal mode, the "Bull" logo appears but nothing else, if I boot in "safe mode" a series of DOS commands scroll and at the end is:  No Inittab Found

open a terminal and su and press enter
then enter the root password and press enter
next type XFdrake and press enter
that should bring up the XFdrake GUI
then click on the box next to Graphics card
select the correct driver and follow the prompts
when done type exit
this should return you to normal user then type
startx and press enter

this should bring up the desktop

Your ISO is too old to update. Get a fresh ISO from the download page.

If I make a new ISO will this solve the problem and shall I need to follow the preceding instructions also?  This is a new Motherboard that carries an integrated video card.

Nope - you should be able to install as normal using the latest iso (see Tex's link) without having to do the fixes Ramchu advised on your old iso install.

After you've installed go can update from here:

The new CD is made and loaded...all appears well.  Please explain the method of update as the web address listed as the "only available" is not listed... I attempted to cut/paste without any apparent success or updates.
