Dia is very nice, it's in the repository, and works well in KDE even though it's Gnome app.

While the links posted are handy, they don't answer the question.
There is no linux app that will open Visio proprietary files.
I wish there was one.

visio is a very uncommon file format

visio viewer should work in wine as the rest of the viewers including excell, word and power point, download it from microsoft

that or try to export what you can to word and work in libreoffice

This old subject popped up in my search.

I could add my new experience.

My Visio .vsd files opened tolerably in Libreoffice Draw. They contained a DXF picture and lots of extra Visio items drawn on top. DXF and Visio layering disappeared, but otherwise all elements were editable and page arrangement and paper sizes were correct. I have to think how I solve the matter of visible/hidden/printable layers, but otherwise I'll manage.

One more reason not to start my Windows box...
Linux installs running:
- PCLOS 2012 on Asus P5P, Intel Core 2 Duo E8500, 4Gb, 1Tb HDD, Nvidia GT240
- PCLOS 2012 on ASUS P8, P IV Prescott 2,8 GHz, 2 Gb,  120+250 Gb HDD, Nvidia FX5600

I've been looking for over 10 years for a native Linux program to open VSD files with no luck.  My solutions are to:

Use Wine to run Visio - works pretty well, sometimes objects in the drawings such as dimensions disappear or wind up in the wrong spot on the drawing.

Use Virtualbox to run win xp and Visio - runs perfectly.

I might add I'm still using Visio Tech 5, it does everything I need to do.

Looks like the new LO4.0 release will be able to work better with visio files - http://pclosmag.com/html/Issues/201302/page15.html

If you're open to a web app, try Lucidchart.  It will open native Visio documents (.vsd, .vsdx, .vdx) and Visio stencils (.vss, .vssx), as well as export back to Visio (.vdx).
