[ SOLVED ] Avidemux not Launching Correctly
« on: February 02, 2011, 04:12:47 PM »
I have installed in the first place
Avidemux-gtk

It begins to launch but the GUI never gets up and running.

So I installed Avidemux-cli and Avidemux-Qt ........  neither of which appear in the menu and I cannot seem to locate them at all in the file-system.
Trying to launch them from a terminal produces 'unknown command' error.

Anyone else having difficulties?

I wonder now if this might be a clash with MythTV ...... as this is the only thing I installed out of the ordinary for me.

from synaptic i have installed avidemux, avidemux-cli and avidemux-gtk

are you in kde4 or gnome?

i can't work with qt in kde4 or in gnome

only gtk version works, can you call it from konsole?

write this: avidemux2_gtk

any error should be listed there, it is a long list when it works, should be smaller when errors are detected

Must have been some corruption somewhere .........  after posting I completely uninstalled all versions; located and deleted all remaining files; rebooted and installed the Qt version ......  it worked.

I then installed the Gtk version and that also worked.

Seems the problem is corrected.

Thanks for responding T6  ;)

regards.

Did the same steps excluding installing QT version.
Didn't work here :(

Re: Avidemux not Launching Correctly

Must have been some corruption somewhere .........  after posting I completely uninstalled all versions; located and deleted all remaining files; rebooted and installed the Qt version ......  it worked.

I then installed the Gtk version and that also worked.

Seems the problem is corrected.

Thanks for responding T6  ;)

regards.

Did the same steps excluding installing QT version.
Didn't work here :(
Avidemux still doesn't want to launch...

Maybe try the same steps including the QT version if you still cannot get it working ........

Well... that's weird but fact...

I installed QT gui version along with GTK version of Avidemux, according the suggestion of mr. Aulus Gracchus Livianus (Just19)  ;D

...And it works, tried both (QT/GTK) versions and they launch as they supposed to do.

Those packages were installed with avidemux-qt
Code: [Select]
libqtscript4 (4.7.1-2pclos2010)
qt4-qtdbus (4.7.1-2pclos2010)
task-qt4 (4.5.2-1pclos2009)

So, what is that? Avidemux GTK can not work without QT in neighbourhood?

Before it was working without QT. That means something needs to be corrected in GTK gui for Avidemux.

One more observation:
Yesterday I messed with ntfs-3g stuff and borked the system.
So I reinstalled from the remaster where I had installed GTK version only.
After install, I tried to launch Avidemux-GTK2 and the result was the same as before: didn't start at all.
Then installed Avidemux-QT4, and tried to launch Avidemux-GTK2 again. Same result: didn't start!
Then I tried to launch Avidemux-QT4 and it started successfully! I closed it and tried Avidemux-GTK2 again and this time it launched correctly.

So my observation is: Avidemux-QT4 is creating some file or some record somewhere during FIRST launch, and Avidemux-GTK2 does NOT. But Avidemux-GTK2 uses that some file or some record somewhere created by Avidemux-QT4.

Conclusion: Avidemux-GTK2 package needs to be checked and corrected. I would do that if I could  ::)
