Maybe thats the difference between our systems... I am using it since I started using KDE4 and never had any problem with any fonts in the system.

I suspect the fonts are hard-coded into Google Earth Betas and give few options if you are trying to use consistent system fonts.

There are some weird and wonderful solutions here which may or may not help...

http://www.google.com/support/forum/p/earth/thread?tid=656ef9a98bc427dd&hl=en

One of the solutions in that thread works -- for a few seconds.

If you replace the Google Earth versions of libQtCore.so.4, libQtGui.so.4, libQtNetwork.so.4 and libQtWebKit.so.4 with links to the default versions of the same libraries, the tiny and unreadable fonts in Google Earth are suddenly replaced by your normal system fonts.

Then Google Earth crashes. At least it does on my system.

Something else you could try is to backup and delete or rename /usr/lib/googleearth/qt.conf. There doesn't seem to be anything of significance in this file and it solved my problem of a locked-up googleearth running on my Gnome desktop.

It didn't make any difference. I'm very grateful for your help though.

I've done a lot of googling and it seems quite a lot of people have been complaining about the UI fonts in Google Earth and Picasa. I've read quite a number of imaginative explanations but I haven't found a fix that would work on my box.

Nevertheless, it seems that the newer versions of Google Earth for Linux and Picasa for Linux aren't real Linux applications: they use Wine libraries. And it's also possible that the Wine libraries don't work very well with Nvidia drivers.

So I'm waiting for the next versions.

Exactly. Check Your /opt/google/picasa/3.0/ folder... folder wine is inside.

Picasa and Google Earth are not a linux native apps. They are running on wine and as far as I know they are not open source.

I removed Google Earth. Didn't find it that amusing. Picasa is being used sometimes for mailing multiple pictures. Its cool coz its shrinking them and adding to lets say Thunderbird new message.

I suppose its more of a wine font problem then the Linux/PCLinuxOS problem.

Maybe messing in the folder mentioned above will allow You to find the fix for Your problem?

Just a suggestion.
