where is VMware player?

I installed VMWare player but cant find any shortcuts or anything to use it.
There are folders in /etc but I cant see anything useful for running a new OS
How do i run it?

I want to create and run an XP vmware, stored in my home directory.

You could try running it from the Command Line chico1st

Could always use Virtualbox as an alternative.

Chico1st, I would second menu's suggestion, and run Virtualbox.  It is a much more complete client, especially with Linux fora host OS. 

If you have already installed VMWare Player, then run vmware-config.pl from the console.  That should get you started.  Then you should make a shortcut to /usr/bin/vmplayer.  And you can run it from there.

I run vmplayer3. I have had some trouble with the install but the latest version seems to work just fine. I like it over virtualbox because it supports tools for win98. Yes I still have a working copy of win98. Once installed it is much more better ( that is southern for far superior) to VB. I have run both. To make a menu option go to the menu editor and pick emulators and make a new item call Vmplayer3, pick the icon which is in system icons > applications. That is the default location that comes up when you click on the blank icon to the right of the name. The run command is vmplayer.

i had a win98 copy working but recent hardware won't work with it, i don't have apps that work with it either

virtulbox tried to make it work but installation hangs for 30 minutes or more so i killed it

virtualbox is a more simple and complete solution right now

oh ok i saw more people saying VMware is easier but any idea of how to remove it?
Its not in synaptic so how do i get rid of it?

forget it, synaptic will ignore it

there could be a .sh script to remove it but no idea since i never used it successfully and left it installed until i had to reinstall a year later, never worked on my machine 

did you installed it as a .rpm or as a .bin or as what?  there should be a manual somewhere saying what to do

ah i found the installer script in /etc/vmware and ran it to figure out the uninstall command which is:

vmware-installer -u vmware-player

+1 for vmware, sometimes some apps doesn't come with a uninstall options or measure, you just have to search and delete files and folders, kinda dangerous i think
