restored .kde.bak, and removed version 4.6.5 kde apps.
Now I know why not to upgrade the FM

What are the changes, developments with the new FM?

uhh, first signs of life. The new FM2012.09 very first boot up after all was setup from scratch; wrt to 2011.09 ~ 500 packages cleaned out, koffice removed, etc. = new space for other things...  
KDE 4.8.3, 3.2.18, all apps reviewed

need to fix some small things still, add FF/TB15, wait for LO3.6.1 to become official, and setup a kde4-config-fm. Then it should be ready to go, first week of September if all goes as expected, very nice!  

PS: if there was anything you really missed on the previous FM2011.09, then let me know this so I can add it in now.

Just tried this evening the latest "normal" PCLOS KDE as Live USB and it works. Untill now I had problems with PCLOS and my hardware. I gues a kernel problem.

If FM has the same (new) kernel I should be able to run FM. Will start with the Live USB first

I have a question regarding using the FullMonty edition.  I have installed the DVD version of the FullMonty 12.09 edition, and I am very pleased with it.  Everything works beautifully with it, but I have one issue.  I am trying to add the Battery Monitor widget to the panel, and I have tried several suggestions that I found on the main forum, but I have been unsuccessful.  I question if the problem I am having is related to the FullMonty edition, because I am not finding  the same results when I go through the steps as I see in the suggestions.  For example, when I right-click on the panel and select the option to unlock widgets, it definitely unlocks the widgets,  But then when I right-click again on the panel, I get NO option to add a widget.  Only an option to add a panel.  If instead I click on the option for System Tray Settings, the display that appears looks like the appropriate screen, it shows an option to select the Battery Monitor, but it is grayed out so I cannot check it.  When I click on the  Unlock Widgets option on that screen, nothing happens, it still remains grayed out. So, I'm at a dead end, and would appreciate it if anyone could tell me how to add the Battery Monitor to the panel.

Hi Richard,

FM is a bit different and needs a special way to unlock the desktop. You could try this:

1) run fm_setwidgets (from the "Tools" container on desktop 6, or from the PCmenu -> FullMonty Tools),
then on the second window select to unlock the widgets layout

2) customise your desktop or the panel as you wish

3) run fm_setwidgets again and in the second window select to lock the widget layout.

This should work, hopefully

yep, again, fm_setwidgets is the tool to use, as explained here and in the fullmonty_readme.txt in your $HOME folder:

3) fm_setwidgets: this tool has two purposes:
a) it permits to define one of the 6 FM-virtual desktops to be shown upon login to your user account.
b) it will detect the current screen-resolution and offer a set of pre-configured plasma config-files for 12 typical screen-resolutions. Run this tool if you
- changed your screen-resolution and need to remap the FM desktop layout to the new screen resolution, or
- messed up your FM desktop layout (<=> plasma config-file) and then want to restore a pre-defined FM-desktop.
- have a different screen-resolution or want to personalize your current desktop layout: scroll down and unlock your current layout so you can modify it to your liking.

In the 32 bit version , I use Baobab instead of filelight
Filelight shows a pie chart and baobab shows both pie and folder-structure

Baobab is part of <gnome-utils>, but it has no menu entry ( in PCLinuxOS ).
In some <other> distros they have a <baobab> menu entry and this makes it easy.

Now, this is of little importance to me personally, but <others> think different.

Any chance of having that in FM-64

I installed dual-boot PCLOS KDE Desktop in June 2011 on my Sony laptop.  I have WinXP in a partition closest to the MBR.  The last time I updated using Synaptic may have been around November last year.

I'm a complete newbie to Linux.

I just downloaded the ISO's for the FM of Sept 2012, and also the KDE of Aug 2012 from this website.  I'll likely wait until I purchase DVD-RW's and opt for the FM over the KDE Desktop.

Question:  What is the procedure to install this newest FM under my current circumstances, after burning its ISO to a DVD-RW?  Do I need to wipe the Linux-dedicated partition clean?

 I noticed a thread about using the 'poor man's' method of installing from either an external harddrive or an internal partition to install KDE Desktop.  Are those options available also to install the Full Monty?

I've been using FM version for some months and find it a most useful distro.  I really appreciate the amount of work that has gone into creating this package However there is one virtual desktop I have not used and will not use.  The games desktop is really a wasted one and space waster for me.

Is there an easy way to remove a complete virtual desktop?
