Hi Pushkar,

please don't cross-post but stay here in this thread. From a root-konsole, or in init 3 and logged in as root, run
Code: [Select]
remove-unused-packages which will remove drivers you do not need on your system. Then properly update your system. In case you can no longer get into the graphical desktop enter
Code: [Select]
do-vesa in a root-konsole, and reboot.

Thx pinoc for Quick response

I followed your codes but no result :(

my fm boots properly in x w/o kb & mouse
so I tried safemode

Code: [Select]
su
do-vesa
startx

screen not found error
then tried
remove-unused-packages ...yes 3-4 nVidia Drivers are removed, but no use
then startx ......... no screens found
XFDrake > set to ATI 2000+
Screen boots w/o kb mouse ?

what should I try now ?

another thing after updating i noticed my booting time is increased 10-20 times
and some annoying long screen full errors while booting as "please use ATTR{}=" and what not  I haven't noticed it before.........
also it takes long time after Starting HAL Demon....

any thing like win system restore is available ?

any good link how linux boots ?

Hi Pushkar,

- which version of FullMonty have you installed? 2011.04? When you updated, did you do a full update?

- screen not found: did you update to X.org 10.1 at some time? No keyboard/mouse looks like a mix of different X.org packages. How can you enter "remove-unused-packages" and "startx" if your keyboard does not work?

- wrt booting: the ATTR messages are harmless; taking a long boot time after Starting HAL daemon is normal when a new kernel is bootet for the first time; did you add a new kernel? Which one?

My I/P devices (k/b, mouse) are not working when X starts ....

I dont think so ...

I have tried

XFdrake with diff settings

whats is Xorg.conf.d ?

Hi Pushkar,

you must update everything and not only some ati-driver, if you have an old ATI-card you could also try this.
Else I don't know besides if everything worked after the initial install why do you need to fiddle with that???

Hi Pushkar,

to update without X:
1) boot into Safe Mode
2) enter: init 3 and wait until you get to the login prompt
3) at the the login prompt enter root and then your root-password
4) enter: apt-get update
5) enter: apt-get --fix-broken dist-upgrade -y
6) enter: init 6

Hi. I recently updated FM and Firefox, Seamonkey, or Thunderbird will not start. After i select the icon of each i see the flashing icon on the taskbar for around 4-5 seconds, then it disappears. Chromium, konqueror, Rekong, Opera, Kmail, all work, but not Mozilla stuff. Any thoughts please.

Hi saiyuki,

hmm, seamonkey is not installed on FM but after installing Seamonkey FF, TB, they all work fine. Let's assume you did a full update and not only Firefox etc., right?
Open a konsole and enter: firefox and let us know what happens.

You can also check in Synaptic to have only one version of libxulrunner installed, current version is 2.0.1

Hi. Yes i did a full update, and i use Seamonkey as my default browser and mail client ( out of habit really  :) ). I have 1 version of Libxulrunner installed and is the version you stated - 2.0.1.

From the Konsol i get the error - Could not create gnome accelerators directory `/home/saiyuki/.gnome2/accels': Permission denied

I 'think' i've seen this mentioned elsewhere. I'll have a search for it.

Thanks for the input

Regards Saiyuki

Ok i did a search and applied the 'solution' as per instructions in this FM thread. After doing the chown -R thingy, i now get the error -

**
GLib-GIO:ERROR:gdbusconnection.c:2279:initable_init: assertion failed: (connection->initialization_error == NULL)
Aborted

Ummm.  :(

Further to reply #117 - printer setup problems.
Two printers connected; HP Laserjet 1018 and HP Deskjet F4280.

I've now managed to find some time to investigate further and have my printers working BUT there are significant problems with the FM printer setup routine.

I reinstalled FM keeping my /home partition
Added users
>PCC>Set up printers
It now responds but reports that there are no printers connected.
I switched both printers off at the wall then back on and retried - same result.

Updated fully with Synaptic and tried again - same result.

Tried running hp-setup from a root terminal:
It found both printers and set up the Deskjet OK but the Laserjet requires a firmware file to be downloaded and it reported that it was unable to connect so failed.  My internet connection works fine.

Trying to install the printers running FM LiveCD gives the same result.

My final fix was to run the LXDE LiveCD that I had laying about.  This automatically installs both printers on boot.  I then copied the file /usr/share/foo2zjs/firmware/sihp1018.dl to a memory stick, rebooted into FM and copied the file to /usr/share/foo2zjs/firmware and was then able to install the printer using Cups which doesn't try to install the firmware.

Hope this helps anyone else with the same problem.

The problem I had with the network coming up slowly or not coming up seems to be a side effect of the above problem.

Please don't take the above as criticism Pinoc.  FM rocks ;D

Russell.

Russel,
make sure that in PCC -> Ssystem -> Services Cups is running, for some strange reason this was not the case up top now. Once Cups is running there should be no difference to LXDE. The base system of all Desktops (LXDE, XFCE, Gome, KDE, etc) is identical. FM is just a specialized KDE desktop + many more drivers + applications installed.

O.K.  So I guess that because cups isn't running Printerdrake can't start on first boot.

So, tried booting the LiveCD again.  Sure enough Cups is not running.

Started Cups went to PCC>Set up printers.  Although both printers are connected and active it still reports "No printers found".  However if I then run hp-setup from a root terminal it works, finds and installs both printers including the firmware plug-in for the hp 1018.  So there is still something wrong with the "set up printers" module in PCC, although, having set up the printers with hp-setup it now shows the printers and is able to change settings etc.

Don't know if this is a general problem or just related to the printers I have.  If you want me to try anything else let me know.

Regards,
Russell.
