When downloading a file in FF4 and then (right click) asking to open the download map it opens kid3.
I removed kid3-qt and installed kid3. (kid3-qt no longer in the repos).
Now it opens in filelight.
I removed kdeutils-filelight, now opening in konqueror.
When installing filelight or kdeutils-filelight, same problem again, opening in filelight.
I can live with it, opening in konq, but my system filemanager is set to dolphin.
Any thoughts ?

FM fully updated and NL (Dutch) localized.
New user, same problem.

In FF4 -> Edit -> Preferences -> General, is "Always ask me where to save files" checked/enabled ?

Check or unchecked, (restart FF) no difference.

Hi Ed,
this is a mime-type question. What is the file-extension of the file you downloaded? The file-extension is mapped to a default application, which you can change of course. To do that open Konqueror, then go to Settings -> Configure Konqueror. In the new window on the left panel go to File Management -> File Associations. Then in the right panel insert your file-extension, for example for the file-extension mpp you get something like this:

then you can choose your preferred application order or add a new application. Once you have customised your preferred application (for any file-extension you want to) you press OK and the new assignment will be saved to the file: ~/.local/share/applications/mimeapps.list. And if you want the new system users to have the same mimetype associations that you just defined then copy that file into /etc/skel{_fm,_default}/.local/share/applications/
hope this helps,
-p.

Hi Ed,

You can try to run firefox using "safemode".

May be you want to take a look at this link: http://kb.mozillazine.org/Unable_to_save_or_download_files

I am happy with all of you thinking with me, but it is not the file association or the open function.
It is on FF4 > Tools > Downloads > right click on downloaded file > Open Containing Folder > opens with the wrong file manager. Settings in Configure Desktop are Default Applications > File Manager > Dolphin ticked.
In the original settings of FM 2011.1 with FF3, not updated, it's opening Dolphin.

Then check what is in File Association -> Inode -> Directory, where I have, in the following order, Dolphin, Konqueror, Filelight.

In this order:
Dolphin
Konqueror
Cervisia
kdesvn

But still opening in Konqueror. I found out this Containing Folder behavior is also with the plugin DownThemAll.

just saved an image in FF4, then FF4 > Tools > Downloads > right click on downloaded file > Open Containing Folder > opens with Dolphin

maybe your DownThemAll plugin messes up things?

From a previous post from DeBaas:

New user, same problem.
The above, let me think it' s not a setting problem, because a new user get (new) default settings.

Ed, did you try firefox -safemode, disabling extensions ? (extension are shared across current and new users ...)

You have Dolphin setup in

Configure Your Desktop >> Workspace Appearance & Behaviour  >> Default Applications >

as your default File Manager.  Just wondering if it would be worth unticking it and choose the Other option and actually apply the path to the Dolphin executable.

I use Download Statusbar as my FF download manager but that probably wouldn't help in this case as it does look like a KDE setting has gone awol

what happens if you download something using not FF but a different browser and then open that file, will that also default to konqueror? If so then it is a system thing else a FF-issue.

With filelight installed Firefox4 and Seamonky opened filelight instead of Dolphin.
Chromium opened Konqueror instead of Dolphin.
With filelight not installed Firefox4 and Seamonky opened Konquerer instead of Dolphin.
Chromium opened Konqueror instead of Dolphin.
