Linux Newbie recently returned to PCLOS and I have just installed the FM version and I am happy to say it works extremely well right out of the Box. No glitches and everything that I have tried so far simply works.

Thank You.

Thank you very much for FM - I have to say it feels a lot like Christmas.  I never expected to like the workspace concept but this has made a believer.  Had some problems related to updates with my install http://www.pclinuxos.com/forum/index.php/topic,91220.msg767243.html#msg767243 but expect some future update will fix.
Is it ok to remove Sqid other than it may be needed for Parental Control?  It seemed to give errors at start up and I haven't yet noticed any ill affects with it gone.  Just wanted to know if it is safe to remove because I'm just scratching the surface.

Hi MountainMan,

great to hear you enjoy the FM  ;)
While I don't get any startup errors it is ok to remove Squid if you don't need/use Dansguardian.
The next FM will have NepoMuk properly disabled, LO3.4, KDE 4.6.4, ssh-enabled, NoMachine, new FullMonty menu-entry, directory cleaning tools, umnodified mylivecd setup, ...  ::)

Thanks pinoc - all good news.   I will continue to enjoy this for now and install the new release on 2 machines when it is done.  The torrent was very fast btw.

Thanks pinoc,

I followed your instructions and FM is working great again.  I am new to the forum and much of a newby to linux in general.  One other question (which may show my ignorance) - if I use synapic to update FM, will I have 2011-04?  BTW, I enjoy using FM much more than any other distro and I have tried lots of them.

Thanks again and sorry for posting my original question in the wrong place.

Thanks pinoc,

I followed your instructions and FM is working great again.  I am new and reluctant in asking this question, but if I use synapic to update, will I have 2011-04?

Thanks again and sorry for posting my original question in the wrong place.

Hi sytoby,
great to hear it works now, and good to see you posting in this thread, I see you read the instructions...  ;)
I think you started with the FM-2011-04 iso image, but even if you started with an older FM-iso, just use Synaptic to keep your system uptodate, doing so will provide you the very latest version, so basically in a couple of days you will have 2011-06. This is possible because PCLinuxOS is a so-called rolling release, just regularly update your system, no need to reinstall, and please keep asking if something is unclear, that's the best way to learn things, and we all started like this sometime ago.  ;)
good luck and have fun with PCLinuxOS!

Just started playing with FM.  Great work Pinoc. :)

I just have a few minor issues:
1. Printer setup via PCC doesn't work here.  Clicking on the printer setup icon gives no response.  No real problem as I've set up my printers with hp-setup and Cups but something is wrong.
2. Right clicking on the speaker icon KMix is greyed out.  Running KMix from a terminal works fine.
3. I know it should be obvious but how can I add a new container on one of my desktops?

TIA
Russell.

Hi russell,

1. is a system-config-printer problem which is under investigation
2. is a KDE-problem, right-click on it and select Restore to bring it up
3. adding a new container to a virtual desktop is not at all trivial and requires manual editing of the file plasma-desktop-appletsrc. I suggest you stick with the available containers to which you can easily add more entries by setting up a desktop-file in the respective sub-directory under ~/.kde4/vdt/{1-6} or read the FullMonty_readme.txt in your Home-directory

1 & 2: Thanks, no problem.  I just thought I should report the problems as I hadn't seen reference to them.
3.  I thought that might be the case.  I've already had a quick look at plasma-desktop-appletsrc and decided to leave it alone!

Thanks for your quick response,
Russell.

Hi Russel,
for the printer setup: start PCC -> System -> Manage system services and make sure cups is running, or started at boot. Then go ahead and add your printer  ;)

1. Can I have Compiz in Full Monty.
2. How To create 7th desktop / or replace Desktop.
3. No Open GL support in my KDE Full Monty how to Add.
    my rig : amd 440 x3, Giga Byte : 880GM-ud2h
4. Where I can find mouse options... Window activeness changes as mouse hovers very annoying  . . not found in normal PLCOS

Can we have KDE Full Monty users Club here.

Hi Pushkar,

1. Compiz is blocked in FM because it will destroy the custom FM-desktop layout, use Kwin-effects instead
2. run fm_setwidgets (desktop 6) to unlock the desktop layout. Right-click the pager in the task-panel and select Add Virtual Desktop. Then right-click in the background, select Desktop Settings and configure it to your liking.
3. Your graphic card seems to not support OpenGL
4. maybe annoying for you but set as default in FM. To change it open Configure Desktop (desktop 6) -> Workspace Appearance -> Window Behavior -> Window Behavior: In the Focus panel under Policy: change to what you want

regards,
-p.

Hi Russel,
for the printer setup: start PCC -> System -> Manage system services and make sure cups is running, or started at boot. Then go ahead and add your printer  ;)
-p.
This is getting more confusing.  I have ticked the "On boot" box for Cups, rebooted and still clicking on "Set up the printer(s)..." gives no response.

I have two printers connected.  HP Deskjet f4280 and HP laserjet 1018.  I set them both up using hp-setup and then used Cups to set the Laserjet as default.  The Deskjet works on bootup but I have to switch the laserjet off then on again for it to work.  I will try uninstalling them with Cups, reboot, and see what happens.....

O.K., done that - stranger still - the network connection didn't come up.  I had to go to "Configure Network" and set it up again.
"Set up printer(s)" still does not respond - what command should it issue?  I thought it was PrinterDrake but that doesn't seem to exist on my system.   I have set them up again this time using Cups alone.  Will try a reboot....

Both printers now OK and network comes up  OK.  Also note that bootup is faster.  So no problems here except that PCC "Set up printer(s)" still does nothing ::)

Update: After another reboot the Laserjet fails to work.  Switch the printer off at the wall and back on and all is well.  This seems to happen every time now :(
