Why no upgrades available in Synaptic recently?
« on: January 27, 2011, 02:46:04 PM »
I'm running Phoenix and using the http://ftp.heanet.ie/pub/pclinuxos/apt/ repo and I've noticed that there have been no updates for 3-4 weeks.

Is this normal? I'm used to seeing PCLINUXOS changes every time I update (normally at least once a week).

I've just checked and it's the same on http://ftp.belnet.be/mirror/pclinuxonline.com/apt/

What's going on?

Why not use the search tool?
Type in it "server moving" or "Oh no!.. No updates?" (thanks Aradalf), and you find your answer!
Daily the same question, other guest must think, we are silly....
My 2 cents

You know what the best thread would be to check? This one: Oh no!.. No updates? ::)
Not that it's going to help, of course. ;D

Why not giving a straight answer instead of creating more drama   ?
EX: The main servers are down. Probably for another week. Cheers.
Easy, isn't it

He-he, admins should open temporary section with shouting fonts for this. Something like "NO UPDATES moaning".

Well, I'm sorry I annoyed a few people, there  :-[

I did a forum search on 'Synaptic' and 'no updates', but failed to find or overlooked the relevant thread(s). I also don't browse the forums regularly, so don't tend to see the newsy stuff.

I did come across the ibiblio news tangentially, but I did not realise that it affected all repos. I was unaware that it was the source for all mirrors.

Apologies again.

No problem. After the 100th post about the same thing we tend to get a bit silly about it.

Thanks to everyone who donates. You keep the servers running.

Any chance of an RSS feed for PCLinuxOS updates, then? I tend to get most of my info that way, and I can't find anything on the main website that indicates there is currently one available.

You may want to install this:

Quote
update-notifier
update-notifier is a tool to automatically check for new updates. It displays an icon in the system tray with the quantity  of updateable packages.  It also provides options to view a list of available packages, and multiple ways to install them.  The user can also easily force an update check from the desktop at any time

I simply link my RSS feed to Tex's Twitter and identi.ca posts.

Oh! (lightbulb goes on over head)

I didn't know you could get an RSS feed of a Twitter account.

Thanks very much for the info, I'm sorted now!

Looks like this thread has been useful after all (for me at least).

You're most welcome.

I find it useful coz Tex frequently posts on the new or updated apps he is working on which then get sent to the repos.

BTW No offense but the forum search algorithm really isn't worth even a slab of imitation bacon. This is no fault of Tex and the others as they generally have nothing to do with these standard search functions but my tip would be to use google and always add site:www.pclinuxos.com to your search. Suddenly you'll notice that you find allot more. Although it could be me, I may just be an idiot when it comes to choosing keywords for my searches and require the power of google to counter my stupidity.
