edu programs
« on: January 27, 2011, 12:02:09 PM »
Any packagers want to take up updating/creating edu programs so I don't have to do them because edu packages don't interest me at all.

I saw your update on identi.ca/pclinuxos (and started to look for it on the forum)

About how many packages are you talking (e.g. also the kde-ones etc?)
Are they generally seen difficult to package (I mean it maybe need someone with experience at packaging)?
I know that normally the updating is less difficult, and on creating new packages we often can look at other distro's how they fixed it there (first thing a packager should know I think  :P)

If there isn't soon coming a known packager, I'd like to try it, because that kind of packages do interest me... (I read the package manuals several times, but have to do it effectively now  ::)), AFTER my exams CS (Networking: today, Java: Monday morning, SQL: Wednesday - that's all).... Then normally I have some free time to dive in it....
But if a packager with more experience (and some time) comes here, it's probably better to choose him (he'll be faster and better in packaging, making less (beginner-) mistakes  :))

So, I'll keep an eye on this thread  ;)

heya Tex ... i can make a start on these .... do you have the srpms you want making???

Kori ;D ;D

If you can handle them all (I don't know how much, haven't taken time to take a look at my local repo; and how many new packages would be have to packaged), I'll take up some other packages (maybe randomly chosen), and exercise... until I think I'd succeed packaging official things  :)

Thanks for your support too in this distro, Sproggy  ;)

You do not belong there, Kori. Making an occasional mistake doesn't mean you are dumb. You are not!

Thank you for your interest

any good therefore that I can do,
or any kindness that I can show
let me not defer nor neglect it,
for I shall not pass this way again.

I just replied to an old post on the .nl forum. Maybe we can pick this up and start the packaging journey together?
Lets keep it going overthere?

OK, perfect... and if something goes wrong, and the other Dutch speaking people on the .nl-forum can't give more inspiration, we'll ask here for some support....

I would like to help a bit, though I'm not very good at packaging - see my earlier attempt here, where I fail horribly at encountering the slightest error in updating Digikam. In fact, I never managed to build it. But anyway, back to the point, I would be willing to try again at packaging, as it doesn't really matter to me whether I have an interest in them, but I would like to help. I guess I'll start with updating tuxtype. In fact, I'll start right now!

EDIT: I did manage to update Digikam - a month after it was already updated. ;D

Started too with tuxtype, just for learning purposes (I hope I can get it so far it builds, and the spec-file made following the rules  ;D)
