Yes it tries to install "locale-ar" and "gcompris-sounds-ar",but I deselected them on the reinstall - no good.
Yet I did install gcompris and unselected the "ar" files in LXDE and it works. Used the same repo to install in LXDE and reinstall in RC7.

Earl

Hi Earl, I just fixed it, thanks ! I reinstalled librsvg and librsvg2_2, (from another repos), now it works. I am now struggling to redo a gfxboot. :P

Mélodie

Hi,

I am uploading now RC8 with the date as of today : 2011 07 09. Most problems have been fixed, the new theme for gdm from Timeth is beautiful and works fine !

One left problem : plymouth education boots fine in the Live, for boot and shutdown, but is gone once installed !

I am not sure about what I should do to avoid this. I will try to check it and "reinstall" it in the Live, and just after install it to hard drive on another machine, laptop T60 dual-core.

If anyone has a clue about what can make it behave this way, I would be interested to know. I'll be back to announce once upload finished.

Regards,
Mélodie

Hi !

RC8 is available. While you will be trying to find the ultimate bugs I'll try to fix the plymouth issue. You can get RC8 here:

RC8 up and running in VirtualBox.  This looks real nice.  I'll be installing to my HP Slimline later today.  Other than the plymouth theme problem, I have two items to report.  First there is a double entry of Synaptic Package Manager in the menu.  Also, the grub menu still shows 2010, not 2011.

Hi Jeff, the Synaptic double-entry is just a matter of removing the /usr/share/applications/synaptic-kde.destkop file (something looking like that). For the GRUB menu, no idea. Any direction about this will be welcome. :)

Thanks,

Plymouth Theme:
I just know enough to mess up my own installs, but I went looking through EVERYTHING that said plymouth and noticed in"/usr/sbin/plymouth-set-default-theme" something about "rebuild initrd". So instead of trying to rebuild initrd, I installed a new kernel.

I then had to use EZswitch to change to another theme, then use it to change back to the pclosedu.plymouth theme.

It worked on a reboot and again after a cold boot.

Mélodie,

I was able to use EZswitch to set the correct plymouth theme, when logged in as root.  I could not get EZswitch to work properly, when logged in as my normal user.  By the way, RC8 is up and running on my HP Slimline.

Hi Earl,

"The truth is somewhere out there".

I tried ezswitch, I tried change kernel and change again, I realized ezswitch does not work as I think is should : not so well that the command lines.

The command lines I use: I go to the directory /usr/share/plymouth/themes then cd again to the pclosedu theme. Then as root : "plymouth-set-default-theme name_of_the_theme", then once done, update initrd, as root, the command needs to use absolute path:
/usr/libexec/plymouth/plymouth-update-initrd

The script /usr/sbin/plymouth-set-default-theme which you talk about is called when invoking "plymouth-set-default-theme name_of_the_theme" as I just said above.

In my install the plymouth theme is working fine. The problem arises once the installed distro is remastered. I started to compare with the PCLinuxOS theme and the Lxde plymouth theme and found the permissions on files are different. I did a "chmod a-x" on the files of the pclosedu theme to make them identical and remastered again. If this is not enough, I'll try something else... or scream help to Timeth ! :D

Mélodie

Hi Jeff,

Have you tried remastering after that ? If yes does it stick beyong remastering ? I wonder if I should not use the "boottheme" mylivecd option for remastering :?

Thanks,
Mélodie

Hi again,

pclinuxos-education-RC8_2_2011.07.09.iso now in Virtualbox. I have Grub gfx ok, Plymouth edu starts ok, I have to create a new vbox install to see if that holds after the install !

Suspense !

Any idea how to get the 2011 in Grub ? Neal has got it fine in his Lxde 2011, for what I am concerned I have browsed files and directories, grepped as much as I could, and no clue up to now !

I'm afraid I haven't done much troubleshooting. I just create some plymouth, GDM and grub themes (that work for me) and then let other people fix any problems they encounter.  ;D  The GDM issue is solved now (that problem must have been related to the differences between GDM and KDM which wasn't an issue before) but I have no idea why the plymouth wouldn't work.

.............something about "rebuild initrd". So instead of trying to rebuild initrd, I installed a new kernel.

Yes, maybe that is the problem?

@Melodie > Have you tried to rebuild initrd before remastering using THIS command?  >
# plymouth-set-default-theme <theme_name> --rebuild-initrd

Any idea how to get the 2011 in Grub ? Neal has got it fine in his Lxde 2011, for what I am concerned I have browsed files and directories, grepped as much as I could, and no clue up to now !

I can make a new one based on 2011 grub files but you have already tried that right?

I don't know if this is relevant, but Tex had a pclinuxos-release-2011-2pclos2011.rpm package. I thought the purpose of this was to make all the changes to identify which release was being used.

Hi Galen,

Thanks for the thought, however, I just checked and that package is already installed.

Hi,

the command "rpm -qil <package_name>" provides all the content of the package : all the files. It doesn't look like grub is concerned. It's installed in my main machines and the message 2010 still appears in the Grub menu.

Thanks for the suggest anyhow...

For what Plymouth is concerned : it does not stick after a reboot once installed. :(

It's there in the Live CD at boot as well as at Live CD shutdown, and once installed, while rebooting the PCLinuxOS plymouth theme has replace it.

How is that possible ?
