Hi,

A RC7 in French is available here, for who want to try... (691 Mo) I won't advertise it on the first page of this thread, I just say it here. I'll do the RC7 in English as soon as possible (I have to do a fresh install from the RC6, as I have changed files here and there in the French version to fit better the language... and don't really re-switch from French to English on the installed one).

I would like to try my hand at RC testing as Im going to school and the timing is perfect, cause my school is in the process of restructuring their Linux class
i.e. they fired cough! I mean. They reassigned two instructors the reason is that linux course is out of date and they now still looking for the books for the class and school starts in 2 weeks lol

Hi,

Timeth has done the whole theme recently and sent it to me ! He has taken the style of Ruel24's background but as Ruel didn't give the SVG, he had to redo it all, so the look will be slightly different.

The thing is I can't look after the next RC7 right now because we just moved a pair of weeks ago and have too much to do at the moment. I hope to be able to install anew, update and so on at the end of this month.

Hi,

Having worked on PCLinuxOS Education project again, I get an error when trying to load the pclosedu_gdm theme. I wrote about that at Artwork, and wanted to let you know about it here too: Re: Artwork for the PCLinuxOS Edu Community Edition

If someone with knowledge of xml files, or GDM themes could help, it would be nice.
I hope we will find a fix for it.

Hi,

I have a Education RC7 ready for testing : 2 problems, the Grub splash is the one of KDE instead of the one of Education, and the GDM Education theme does not work (Timeth is still working on it).

What do you think about the first one ? Maybe it's stucked into the initrd, and I should redo the initrd ? (If it is so, I'll just change kernel a pair of times... )

Let me know if you want to test it as is, by the time theses 2 glitches be solved ?

Just downloaded RC7 and installed it. Will look it over and let you know how it all works.

First thing I noticed. "My Documents" is not working. Opened it in geany, it shows "Exec=thunar" changed to "Exec=pcmanfm". Now works as it should. I checked in "/etc/skel" and it is wrong there also.

Will look at it more later today.

Update RC7

Gcompris fails.

It starts to load - then says -couldn't find or load file computer.svg. It also does not have gcompris-music installed.

I installed the new LXDE on another partition and loaded gcompris. It works. I compared the two installs and the computer.svg file is in the same location on both.

I correct the desktop files, and confirm about gcompris. I don't know what's going on here, I'll try to uninstall and reinstall it freshly (from another repository). Will also look in my main install how gcompris behaves. Did it (try to) install "locale-ar" and "gcompris-sounds-ar" in your install ?

If you by the greatest... Tux, had any idea how to fix the GDM setup ? You could take a look by trying to configure GDM and change the login screen : from "PCOBOX-GDM" to "pclosedu_gdm"... and see that error message.

I think I might have found how to manage to get the Grub boot to be the right one for Edu (next RC8, might be RC8-2).

For the Gcompris problem I don't have the first idea, but will go to request an update...
The 9.6.1 is out since 2011-04 ! \o/ !

Hi Melodie, I have made a new GDM screen and it's working well on a Gnome system. But, I would like to change the login box. What is the icon set you are using? I'd like to try and use the "My documents" house icon as the login box. It might fun for the kids.

The icon set is Gartoon Redux Gnome Icon Theme which is also packaged !
You could have found the little house just by looking at the content of the home.desktop file : it's "gohome" and the name of the icon theme in the ~/.gtkrc-2.0 ...

Yes it tries to install "locale-ar" and "gcompris-sounds-ar",but I deselected them on the reinstall - no good.
Yet I did install gcompris and unselected the "ar" files in LXDE and it works. Used the same repo to install in LXDE and reinstall in RC7.
