I was moving some files over to the Windows partiton of the laptop when I realized that I do have more than one DE on it. I have LXDE, XFCE, Gnome, and E17.

This may not be the area to ask this question, but can uninstall KDE 3.5 in some way (or perhaps just not use KDE 3.5 anymoe) and simply hit a more current repo to support, say, LXDE or another DE?  for the time being until i do a reinstlal of everything.

i remember that there was only one real reason to have kde3, quanta, it seems that is still the case

other than that, i can't think on a reason to have kde3

Konqueror
File and folder manipulation in present Konq is up to nuggets
If you delete folders in your left pane, they don't dissapear
If you delete folders in your right pane, they don't disapear in the left pane
If you happen to click on those deleted folders, you get an error message
If you color the icons in the left pane , nothing happens
if you ....this...then that
If you this2 then that 2
If you use Kde3, nothing of that crap happens
If you use a file manager, like krusader, no cr happens

This is not my install, as I have installed 10 times already on 10 different places
Other than that, I am getting used to KDE4

konqueror?

i use dolphin, if dolphin is not enough there is other options and if i remember correctly konqueror works in kde4

not sure if the list of problems you gave is for konqueror or not but after all this years is time to move on, anyway, let's not hijack this post with more complains about this defunct topic

As far as I can see, this is happening every day ( in many topics ) on every forum I ever went to

Yes it does No , it does not ( as far as above complaint is concerned )
Dolphin works OK, so I could use that instead

But no matter what , I always find myself going back to Konq

Maybe I need a brain-washing session to get using Dolpin  ;D

Xena

Edit....I was sleeping when I answered this post
I am going to correct above..........Done

Rudge...not a problem at all.:)

BTW, I was going to wipe KDE 35 off my laptop and install KDE 4.5 when i realized I had other DEs on it. I just may use LXDE for the moment until I get a new laptop.

Then I'll move files to the new laptop, upgrade the old to KDE 4.5, etc.

again, I'm just curious if I can switch repos and update LXDE to current without breakage.  If yes, it means KDE 3.5 wil be toast, but I'll have LXDE for the moment. If not, I'll still have LXDE running nicely.:)

I don't think you can upgrade so easily  :-\  better you have a B plan
I shall pass this way but once;
any good therefore that I can do,
or any kindness that I can show
let me not defer nor neglect it,
for I shall not pass this way again.

yeah. Plan B is a c0mplete reinstall/upgrade.

I'm downloading LXDE now. Just wondering if I should install KDE 4.5 and then install LXDE or the other way around?

Mark, if it was me, I would install a native LXDE on that lappy and just use that "as is".

No need for KDE on a slower machine. If you have needs for programs that run in KDE, they still work even without the heavy DE.

At least,, I have never found any?

T6, rudge, thaks.:)

I'm just wrapping up the LXDE downloaded. I'll instal KDE 4.5 and then LXDE from that. Just need to get my deadline completed and posted for clients and then I'll have some free time (after I write my PCLosMag piece.:).:)

Hope you get things worked out but, that is a confusing statement.

Wow!  Yeah! Confusing for sure! It was late.

What I meant was:  I was in the process of downloading the LXDE ISO. Tthe download was just about completed. I had only about a minute left in the download.

I now have the most recent PCLinuxOS ISOs for KDE 4.5 and LXDE.  I was trying to decide which to install and then which DEs to install from that.  T6 suggested I install KDE and then other DEs from that rather than the other way around. I was thinking of installing LXDE first then installing KDE DE.

If you are going to use KDE anyway, I would do it the way T6 suggested.  ;)
