Thanks very much.  I haven't stumbled upon that.  Sounds promising.  I will try soon.  Thanks!

Do what I did: use a different clock widget, like the adjustable clock.

UKRick - The application appearance, taskbar fonts do not change the time and date fonts.  Thanks anyway!

Ertain - I can't find an adjustable clock widget?

Found the adjustable clock widget in the repository and installed.  But does not work.  I get the following error:  Could not find requested component: adjustableclock.

Thanks again, but to manually specify my preferred taskbar size, I need to know where the options are to manually change both my time and date fonts and time and date font sizes.  I can't find where I can access these basic settings.

As has been posted .......  the Font for the clock is changeable from the "Digital Clock Settings".
As the Digital clock is one unit which displays the time and the data as a user choice, it makes use of the Font type chosen - as above.

The Font size changes with the taskbar height so there is no necessity I guess to have a font size choice.

So just use the provided methods to adjust your taskbar and the clock fonts and icons will follow the lead regarding size to suit the height chosen.

With regard to the above settings I'm obviously not understanding what exactly you want to do that the above does not do.  :(

The digital clock font settings only change the type of font for the time with no option to change the size.  The digital clock font settings do not change the date font or font size at all.

When sizing the taskbar to my preferred size the automatic font sizing does not change to a usable size and causes a partial display of the time and overlapping fonts in the date.

I'm not sure how I could be more specific.  What I need to know is where are the settings located where I can manually change the font and font sizes of both the time and date to enable a proper fit in the taskbar as adjusted for the size taskbar I prefer?  I would think these basic settings/options are available someplace and I just haven't been able to find them.  Or do they not exist?  Thanks!

I have not seen such settings ......  presumably one would need to hack the clock widget to get access to them.

Again the font size used is apparently determined by the amount of space provided by the height of the bar set by the user.

I know of no place to edit the settings other than that provided by the right click option.

Place the clock widget on your Desktop and resize it to see the effects that are apparently preset in the widget.

Maybe one of the other widgets would suit your needs better?

regards.

As reluctant as I am to add any more information, the different fonts have drastically different default sizes associated with them. Have you actually tried them all to see if one already has a default size that will help you out?

Thanks everyone for replying.  Just one of those simple and basic customizations that are no longer available to the user.

I am most likely off base here, but I would extend the  panel so that
it utilizes the entire width of the screen, allowing more room for the clock.

or

turn off the year display in the clock settings, it isn't going to change for 11 months.

Found the adjustable clock widget in the repository and installed.  But does not work.  I get the following error:  Could not find requested component: adjustableclock.
So you installed it via Synaptic, then went to the taskbar -> Panel Options -> Add Widgets and couldn't find Adjustable Clock?

Ertain:  Adjustable clock shows up fine in add widgets.  But when adding widget to taskbar or desktop, all that is displayed is "error; could not find requested component: adjustableclock", no clock!

Ramchu:  Not off base at all!  There are several ways to work around or cover up the lack of being able to manually adjust the time font size and date font or size, but those solutions are only that, work arounds or cover ups.  I will, however, have to accept and use one of the work around methods!

Don't know what is going on .......  I installed the "Adjustable Clock" and put it on my Desktop without problems.

To be honest I did not find it much more configurable than the other (default) so I suspect it would not suit your needs.

In my brief look at it, I did not see any way to separately adjust the font/font size of the date line.
I may of course have missed something.

More of a worry might be why you could not launch it at all ......

jmorganil,

The peculiar thing is that on my box the font size for the date adjusts itself automatically:

You'll find the settings for the digital clock widget in  ~/.kde4/share/config/plasma-desktop-appletsrc. Here the relevant part of the file looks like this:

Code: [Select]
[Containments][3][Applets][9]
geometry=1483,0,126,42
immutability=2
plugin=digital-clock
zvalue=0

[Containments][3][Applets][9][Configuration]
Share=false
announceInterval=0
calendarType=locale
defaultTimezone=Local
displayHolidays=false
holidaysRegion=
plainClockColor=0,64,0
plainClockFont=Verdana,24,-1,5,50,0,0,0,0,0
showDate=true
showDay=true
showSeconds=true
showTimezone=false
showYear=false
timeZones=
useCustomColor=true

I can only guess how the numbers after plainClockFont=Verdana are to be interpreted.

As does mine ......  but there seems to be a cut-off point ......  I can increase the tray height resulting in the time font increasing in size, but no increase in the date font size, up to a certain point ......  passing this point the date font also increases in size.

There is no setting I can find that allows the user to set the 'relative' sizes of the date and time fonts.

A view of what I mean ......

I cannot make the date font bigger, while retaining the font size of the time.
