Dropbox owns by the way, love it and use it everyday. Glad it's in the PCLOS repositories!

Ditto. Its a wonderful service.

I think they were wise staying with something very simple to use.

Having the Selective Sync function is useful as it gives me the ability of Syncing only certain folders on different machines - and especially useful when running lots of VMs and only needing access to certain files. But gives me access to other folders when needed.

And I can see that function being very useful for people who don't have fast broadband and also those with data caps.

Of course that is on the assumption that your upload speed is limited by your ISP as mine is .....
Yes, my upload speed is set at less than one quarter the speed of download.  Just seems to be a typical standard across plans.  Why I'll never know!

All in the name of making money!  The faster the upload speed the more money they can rake in from it.

One thing I don't like is that to share your files, the friend or business colleague with whom you want to share files must make a dropbox account before they can look at the files you have "shared" with them.  (Unless there is something I am missing.  Please tell me if so.)

This just doesn't work for me in at least 2 situations:

1) sharing photos with family, relatives, and friends.  Not everyone (in fact likely no one I know) wants to open a drop box account just to look at photos of my little kids smiling faces.
2) sharing files with business colleagues or customers.  Again, as above.  Also, it is bad business to say to a customer, "Here are the files you need.  Just make a dropbox account first and then you can access them."

Other than that, a fabulous KISS service.

Just provide a link to the file you wish to have some one see and they can d/load it ......  without an account.

You must put it in your public folder, and then when you right click it you get a menu, where you must click show public link(or something like that)
