<Helped & Worked>NV 6200 video card performance increace
« on: January 15, 2011, 11:43:24 AM »
I have been reading. I saw in the KDE4Special magazine about configuring your card to run better. Since this is the video card I want to go slow and careful. Hand holding for noob. :-\
In the magazine is said to add lines to xorg.conf in "Screen" section. Not sure where this is?
Lines to add,
Option "PixmapCacheSize" "5000000"
Option "AllowSHMPixmaps" "0" Do you have a certain place they have to be in???
Pretty much 1st try at system config.
Thanks You! for your time!!!!

this options are useful with ati/amd and intel cards

nvidia usually only need the driver from repos

if you want to add that code usually in the beginning of the xorg file is where it should be, where is mentioned the module used and other similar options

before doing any big change you should make copies of the xorg.conf file

if the changes makes system unusable you can go back to normal by copying the original file again by just using th livecd

The file your referring to, is located in /etc/X11/. To edit this file you'll need root privileges.

OK found file. Now copy and rename something like xcon.old for back up. Then add lines at beginning! Thanks

well, try proprietary nvidia driver and try another kernel, which one are you using? but since pclinux is very fast without much intervention i can't think of more suggestions

you can improve boot speed by disabling some services but i can't find the link to the services that can be disabled
