(Solved) D-Link DWA-556 (Atheros Com AR5008 (WNA)) Not working.
« on: January 14, 2011, 01:04:00 PM »
D-Link DWA-556 (Atheros Com AR5008 (WNA))  Not  working.  Linux appears to set up the DWA-556 as an AR5008 then will not connect with router (which is working with my laptop).    How do I check to see if I have the correct driver? Any help would be appreciated.  Thanks KenB

you will have to be a bit more informative than "it will not connect".

How exactly have you tried to connect, did you see any error message when it failed to connect? what did they say? The more info you give in your support question, the faster the solutions will be provided

can you open the terminal and type these commands and post their output here:

lspci

ifconfig

Now while on the terminal, log in as root by typing "su" then press enter and then enter root's password when asked and press enter again to be root and then do the following.(the prompt should be red in color now)

1. Run this command :

service syslog restart

2. Try to connect to your network

3. Run this command and then paste its output here:

cat /var/log/syslog | tail -n 20

ps:
copy and paste the commands to make sure you dont mistype them

Thanks for the help!  My problem was "between the head phones" i.e. I did not read my notes for the key correctly and there fore entered the wrong key.  Every thing is working fine now,  Thanks again.

KenB44,

As mentioned/suggested in this thread please open a konsole/terminal  and type the following and post back the results

lspci

dmesg |grep -i ath

This will identify your wireless chip and other information required.

bingyman,

the hardware in itself does not necessarily advise what chipset is in place (manufacturers like to keep us guessin) it is the revision of hardware that counts.
