;D ;D ;D ;D

Scanner now working !!!!!!!!!!!!!

Thank you !!!!!!!!

Now one last question

How Do I move/access saved scanned images from Virtual Box to My Linux?

So I can Access them without going through Virtual Box?

In your ~/ directory create a sub directory and designate it as shared.

The top button of the three arranged vertically on the right side is the Add a shred folder button. In a Windows VM you can map the shared folder as a network drive. In a Linux VM, you make an entry in the VM /etc/fstab with a designated mount point directory, and it gets mounted on boot up. Details are given in the VBox Help manual

Of what use be there for joy, if not for the sharing thereof?

Additional question,

Does CrossOver from code weaves allow you install the support software for scanners or other odd ball devices so that could work properly in Linux? Most Windows Based Hardware is all software supported (the same as any game or office product)

I have been looking at, but here has to be a hook somewhere with that installation program if no ones been recommending it. Is there limits on the amount of software you can install or does it cause more problems then it solves? Or is there continual costs issues running the software? It's not kernel specific is it. meaning you have to re-install every time you upgrade your kernel, and pay for a new license to keep using your programs?

If anyone wanted to try it, is it available in our disto through Synaptic? :'(

In a word, NO! For the scanner to work in Linux, it needs Linux drivers. Running the scanner software in wine or CrossOver won't provide Linux drivers so will fail to function.

As to CrossOver itself, I have two free downloads from an offer made in 2008. (Pro and Games) I can still install either on my system and use the same registration. It's not like the Windows world where you need permission to use it again at every turn. If I wanted a newer version, with newer features I'd have to pay for that, of course, but I can use what I have for as long as it will run. The free d/l offer from CrossOver made recently I believe is the same version I already have.

I've used my CrossOver installation with many different kernels and it's still working.

One can get the demo version from the CrossOver site, but not from our repo.

 ;D Hi Everyone,

I want to thank everyone, and especially to old-polack for all the assistance in getting my scanner to work correctly. It will be forever burned into my brain.  :o

I can now successfully scan a document in through the emulator and it is saved in a shared Linux directory.

and the attached link http://forums.virtualbox.org/viewtopic.php?f=7&t=38210&start=0 a bit more detail on creating a shared folder and connecting it to an Virtual XP Machine.

Hopefully it will help other Linux newbies like myself.

So hope everyone has a goodnight.

Just a note personal and update.
PC Linux OS KDE can install on my machine
(Still got xfce in at the moment by will change shortly after playing with wine/windows installations.
If I am going kill my setup, I'd rather do it now, then later) ,
all hardware now works in Linux except the scanner of course and
my radio that is built into my tv@nywhere card.
Successfully emulated XP home edition (because its free) and Win98SE so far.
Whatever Win Software will not run in Linux will run on both Win Emulators.
So, Basically I think I got my system licked, so far.
I just want to say, thank you to everyone for your help and wish you all the best.

Sincerely,
Tom ;D
