about the right driver, this is so common, i have two drivers for my sis163u adapter and only one works on linux, the other two works well on windows, sometimes test them all is the only solution

Well, the correct driver was a bit confusing. I have an RTLXXXX card and an RTXXXX card two different drivers. My thinking was
RT = RealTek
and
RTL = Ralink
. WRONG! LOL
