But starting around last Oct or Nov, K3b crashes when trying to burn images

Same here.
I just burned the knoppix 3.4G iso with ktorrent
Used 6x
It burned 98% and then gave me a crash error:
fatal error during recording:input/output error

However, the ( bad ? ) burned Cd seemed to boot up properly.
Didn't test any further yet

I'm a little late to the party, but I've been using K3b for burning isos since PCLOS v.93.  I've been running LXDE for over a year & using K3b successfully.  But starting around last Oct or Nov, K3b crashes when trying to burn images.  No big deal, I just switched to xfburn for my disc burning jobs.  Anyway, thought I'd throw this in as I saw the topic here in the forums.

Paul

I seem to remember a similar thread, had to do with updating K3B, if I remember right person had to uninstall then re-install K3b.

I have had no problems with grafburn, brasero, xfburn or k3b. Any of them work fine here - main or test computer.

Perhaps you could look in Synaptic's history, find where you installed k3b and its dependencies and then reinstall them.

Had something to do with the last update in Oct or Nov. I went and looked for it and as usual can't find it. As far as I remember it was the solution.

I think the issue here is with burning ISOs only.

I have burned yesterday 20 DVDs ( twenty   ;D  ) for someone.
All data !  No problem at all.
All of them where 4.3 Gb full

Then I burned one ISO 3.4 Gb...et voila...error...errror

simplest way to burn a ISO use
Code: [Select]
brasero --image %fright click on a ISO, and use open with...
commando line, type the command 'brasero --image %f' in the entry line.

Now it will start brasero to burn the iso

Have fun...

Just in case you all don't know.... AcetoneISO newest version now burns ISO's as well as all the other nifty things that it does.  ;D

I equate it to ImgBurn for windows.  ::)

k3b (in KDE) allows me to burn ISOs and DVDs.  As I recall (all these threads run together sometimes.:)), I just can't seem to create an audio CD from MP3 files.  I'll try Brasero for that.

The original problem was that k3b wasn't able to burn an ISO in LXDE. I used Brasero and that worked fine.:)

Not that I object to using Brasero, but k3b does work in LXDE. So long as all its dependencies are installed, and you have nothing installed that conflicts with it, it works fine.

Well, I'll give it a go again then.:)

Hey!  Success!  It worked!

maybe, last time, it was a bad disk or mounted improperly or?????

I dunno. It worked and works.

Chalk it up to operator error, I guess :-[ :P

It's not always operator error. Your choice of medium, the burn speed, the program used and I suspect the phases of the moon sometimes can affect my success rate.  ???

yes, moon is a important factor here, sometimes it makes the disc spin weird and burn fails

also can make spin the user in his chair, desktop vibrates and write process fails  ;D
