Program installed from synaptic and speed test

Thanks, I did do the alt F2 and typed it in but no program came up, is this something that just runs with no settings? I did notice that the scroll was not working (yes) but the tap to click was/is still driving me nuts lol.

I have a lot to learn and thanks for the help. This is a very nice forum and I'm glad that you like noobs

Did you type in gsynaptics when you tried to run it? Because I notice that I left off the "s" myself... dang picky computers.

Also, try looking in the menu under More Applications>Configuration - should be a gsynaptics entry there. When it does run, it brings up a nice GUI with a lot of options to control the touchpad.

OK it ran this time using the alt F2, maybe I typed it wrong the first  time. Seems like everything I install doesn't work til the next day after the computer has been off. Now to figure out how to get in the menu or on the desktop. It has the options that I want, now do I have to run it every time I boot or is it something that the settings will stay with.

Yep.
BTW, if you haven't done it, you can run the Repository Speed test.
You should find it at start>software center>
it will check the speed of the software repositories to find the fastest one for you.
You can choose the fastest one & set it as default.
Can make a lot of difference.

Did you set the repo sync age to a low rate?
My usual setting of 2 days returned 2 repos with slow rates, but a 5 day rate returned a normal one.
Seems the repos haven't been refreshed lately.

I kept it at 5 where it was. Right now my system is borked, even windows from a wrong cpu driver..................still working on it.

To heck with the speed test. Just go to Synaptic>Settings>Repositories and pick one that's close to you and/or works well. I've found that most of the time for me here in New Mexico, USA, the pclosusers repo (pclosusers.com/pclosfiles/) is very reliable, as well as the Indiana university repo (ftp.uwsg.indiana.edu/linux/pclinuxos/pclinuxos/apt/). I found this out by experimentation, and whenever I did use the speed test, it just confirmed what I already knew.

Personally I use the PASS repo and highly recommend it.

Forgot to mention, just in case: make sure you only have ONE repository ticked at a time.

Yeah, before someone suggested to run the speed test I had all ready choose the Indiana one and it is the only one I have marked.
