Why does mylivecd seems to take forever and aborts...?
« on: January 06, 2011, 11:07:56 AM »
So...

I have PCLOS installed to an external USB HDD w 40 Gb... in two partitions... one / with 12.9 Gb, out of which i only have 3.7 Gb free, and a /home with 22Gb, out of which i have 16.7 Gb free...

So in /home/alex, i type as root mylivecd --tmp /home/alex/buildroot --nodir ^/home/alex/books ^/home/alex/work

to exclude my directories in home full of pdfs and ather work...  and this takes forever...   after one day it did not complete...

Yet the partition where i am building the iso has lots of space...  and I am only compressing / into my squashfs system...  about 8.1 Gb... is this too much for a 4.4Gb iso, or must i exclude the /home/alex/buildroot from the build process also...?

If you have only 3.7 GB free, your build will fail.

There are errors in your command.
Code: [Select]
mylivecd --tmp /home/alex/buildroot --nodir ^/home/alex/books ^/home/alex/work
Try this instead -->
Code: [Select]
mylivecd --nodir^/home/alex/books,^/home/alex/work my.iso
Take note of the differences.

Thx Neal

I will try as you suggested, but must i have more than 3.7 GB free in my build partition or in my root partition...?

I have two partitions in my hdd, the one that holds / has 3.7 Gb free, but the one that holds my /home, where i am trying to build the iso /home/alex/buildroot has 17 GB free....

Must i still free some space in my /, regardless of the fact that i am building in a bigger partition...?

The /tmp in your /home is only a symlink to /tmp in /.  Try again, but I do not think you have enough room. Use the command I gave you. Run bleachbit and bleachbit-root first to clean up your system first.

Thx...  :)

I will try this as soon as i get to my PCLOS box...  I will report here tomorrow...   BTW, what is the ratio of compression in Sqfs...?  i can fit into 4.4Gb, say ...8Gb, 10 Gb...?

The maximum system size you can remaster is 12GB or even less, depending on the compressibility of the applications you have installed. For a maximum remaster of 4.0GB (not 4.4GB) you will need free space on your system of at least 10GB, 4GB for the final remaster and about another 6GB for intermediate storage and compression steps before the final iso is created. Also make sure to have these 10GB free space on the partition to where the final remaster is written to. Mylivecd will crash if you try to remaster more than 12GB (or depending on what is installed even for more than 11GB).
hope this helps,

Hi

I have managed to create my iso...  it has about 2.2 GB size...  has everything i wanted to...

I had to use synaptic to remove some stuff...  but i think i have screwed up...  :(

I have PCLOS installed to an USB HDD, and i can no longer boot into X...

After kdm, i select root or user to log in...  Nvidia logo pops up, then the screen blanks again and throws me back into  kdm...

In one of the ttys it says something about not finding gl.conf...    I think i have uninstalled something i shouldn't...

How can I repair my system...?

Ca can boot is a "sort of" graphical mode, and launch synaptic, if i select session to be custom in kdm...

How do i proceed from there to restore fully my X11...  ?

This has to do with some "devel" packages i threw away....   but which...?!   :(
