OOo turning "graphic" text into text
« on: January 04, 2011, 02:31:27 AM »
The only way I know to copy text that you can't highlite with the cursor is to take a KSnapshot and paste it into Open Office.  But OO thinks it's a graphic. You can then print it, but you can't realistically send it in an email, or paste it in here, because being a graphic, it's huge.   Is there any way to make OO convert it to actual text, which it actually is, of course.  Or is there another way?

When you take a screen copy the file is saved as a graphic.
The only way to extract any embedded text is to run it through an OCR
(optical character recognition) program.
Some scanners used to have this facility and it was very flaky in windows.
I have not tried in linux, but have a quick look on google or peruse synaptic
for OCR programs.

Someone on the forum may have already tried this before, so you may get
more answers.
