I updated K3B ,then noticed my dolphin file manager wouldn't start.
I restarted the computer, and it would not fully boot up.I got this
error message:

call to Inusertemp failed (temporary directories full?

In watching verbose start all was ok ,then I saw:

Starting U-dev post   : FAILED

I also saw this:

Telling INIT to go to single user mode
INIT:going to single user

sh-4.1#--this is a command line,what would I need to write here?


I was told when I had this before,that I should of let the computer
just run,They said it may of been performing a FSCK

If it was , how would I enter a command line to continue the fsck ?

The only way I fixed this the last time was to reinstall the
system,this was 5+ months ago.No problems until now.

Any suggestions appreciated.

Well, first of all, never update only one application. Before installing anything, always click Reload > Mark All Upgrades > Apply > Apply. To update, follow the same procedure. You can't just update one application.

Secondly, did you try the command startx after logging in via command-line? If that fails, post back the error message you receive. Also, try logging in as root and running alsaconfig, In addition, start PCC from the CLI and check to see if your graphics card is set up correctly.

If you haven't  updated your system within the past 30 days then download a fresh ISO and install from the updated CD.

Updated ISOs can be downloaded from http://www.pclinuxos.com/?page_id=10

if ll you have is cli, you need to complete the update process

in cli write synaptic, it will ask root password, write it and then press reload button, after that press mark all updates and apply, after a successful update restart

if synaptic can't start you can use as last option apt-get dist upgrade, there is a couple of commands explained more details on this inconvenient situation

pclinux is a rolling release distro, you need to update everything, quite often

partial updates will create this situations

if none of the options i mentioned works, use livecd to backup your personal files and enjoy installing a new iso

How can I get a new iso,or update all packages,if I cannot get the computer to boot up?

Ok,to recap-

I am unable to boot up the computer.

In safe mode the verbose  boot stops with

sh-4.1#

I've tried all suggestions after this,got nothing.

So I'm left to believe that since the machine didn't boot,the suggested commands don't work because the system must be booted for them to work,and the system isn't booted.

It is stuck in the loading of the system.

So all I can do is load the system again from an iso disk?

When you get the sh-4.1# can you not type a command there? That is a single user command prompt. If not, then the system may have crashed. You should also try running "fsck" from the live CD. You shouldn't run that on mounted partitions of a booted system, so that's why you use the live CD, find the installed partitions and do the file check. It does should as if you have file system corruption.

What exactly do you mean by "got nothing"?

Are you saying when you type the command you don't see your keystrokes echoed on the monitor, or that when you press Enter at the end of the command there is no response and the prompt doesn't come back, or it goes straight to a prompt with no other output displayed, or something else?

Once we know what you see we might be able to comment on what is going on.
