Questions about readahead and preload.
« on: December 24, 2010, 09:46:22 AM »
Thinking about trying readahead and preload. I already have prelink installed and configured. I was wondering a couple of things:

Is there any point in installing both readahead and preload? As in are they doing enough of the same job that it becomes redundant? And with prelink already installed, would either of the two others be a redundancy as well?

And also, have only found one explanation on how to set up a "profile" for readahead, and that was on another distro's forum, and seemed overly complex and I have found that distro very typically has a lot of extra steps required to accomplish something that PCLOS usually does very easily. If anyone has the time to post instructions, it would be greatly appreciated and i'll definitely save the info and share and add to database.

Thanks!

Me too...  :-[

On topic though, I only have prelink installed, and have noticed an improvement.
The idea that Bill Gates has appeared like a knight in shining armour to lead all customers out of a mire of technological chaos neatly ignores the fact that it was he, by peddling second-rate technology, who led them into it in the first place. - Douglas Adams (1952 - 2001)
