I don't know how it works for Lexmark...
For my HP printer/scanner, I go through PCC and manually set up using the printer IP address. hplip does the rest automatically once the printer is detected.
I also have a Brother multi-function center (printer/scanner/fax) that has downloadable drivers for Linux. Basically the same approach except it's all command line driven.
Both printers are set up with static IP addresses so that there are no issues with the IP addresses changing as a result of dynamic addressing.
I have printing and scanning working on both. Don't use fax...
