Being testing x11-driver-video-openchrome-0.2.904-1pclos2010
« on: December 22, 2010, 12:01:38 PM »
Hi,

I can't post this at the mailing list because I am not using my own machine, but a laptop from a friend, with a Pclos Openbox Bonsai on a Live USB persistant install.

The machine:

# lspci | grep VGA
01:00.0 VGA compatible controller: VIA Technologies, Inc. K8M890CE/K8N890CE [Chrome 9] (rev 01)

So far the result is good. All works well, the videos (on youtube) are ok...

The machine works fine.

I have now being using it for more than one hour, all is very fluid and responsive, although it's not a top brand and model.

Regards,
Mélodie

Hi,
Have you by any chance been able to install VIA's own drivers from source?

I was supposed to answer to the testers mailing list, but I could not at that moment, not being in a machine of mine, with my password for access to webmail or my mail client for access to the messages. This is why I came here. The purpose was to test a driver that Texstar had freshly packaged and made available at the testing repository.

At PCLinuxOS, we try to avoid installing and using self-compiled applications as much as possible, but use the ones provided by the packagers.

No problem. I thought you were a beginner or a user coming from any other distro, used to try any source package just to see "what it does". I sometimes compile sources in my machine, for different needs, but I avoid having hand installed packages if I can have the same under the shape of the package, and as you noticed, I don't make packages. :)
