Is there any reason not to install Nautilus in E-17?

Honestly I guess that because of size , I always use Thunar , is the usual in E17.

I have Thunar & PCmanFM installed now. The reason I asked is because I like the fact I can change the backgrounds in Nautilus. I would prefer Nautilus-Elementary but it's not in the repositories.

 The reason I asked is because I like the fact I can change the backgrounds in Nautilus.

I like that feature a lot, you can use pictures too as well as tiles, though it does get a bit confused on mine when using jpegs, as to how to properly size them, researching that now to see if there's a way to remedy it. Also considering making some custom tiles for it. Found a huge amount of little square thumbnails of pattern on sites that sell fabric, some of them are pretty cool and they are frequently the perfect size for using as background material in Nautilus.

Hi, plan 1. install the gnome pclos, then add E17

plan 2. Get the latest E17 iso, and do a fresh install, then install nautilus right away. Just uninstall it if there are problems.

I'm having several issues, one of which is nautilus not starting from a user account, but I think the problems are related to
various gui toolkits and themes that are not fully compatible with each other. Also, kde4, which I updated, appears to get more bugs with each release, and may be hindered by the gui kit bugs. So the new E17 iso is my next step, and kde will have to wait.

I think I am just going to stay away from nautilus on e-17 for awhile.

You can use any filemanager you like. I prefer pcmanfm for it's lightness.
If you use thunar or nautilus you can also use the trashcan gadget. (pcmanfm doesn't support trash neither does efm)

actually, I don't use the trash when I am using nautilus. I like to live on the edge

i run pclinuxos 2010 lxde-mini
i use pcmanfm for most stuff, but i'm into music and streaming/ripping audio. i use nautilus to browse this stuff because it does that cool, preview-on-hover thing - indispensable if you're sifting thru tons of mp3s!
so - on my desktop, i use wbar (one of those mac-type dock thingies) to open nautilus. i put "--no-desktop" in its command line or else it'll kind of take over your desktop.

The preview/play-on-hover thing is I believe is actually Mpg123, it's in the repo, I use and prefer Nautilus myself, but I imagine it will work on other filesystems?
