No install options with PCLOS Gnome
« on: December 18, 2010, 01:45:20 PM »
I went to install PCLOS gnome on my brother's computer, however, when the installer started I did not have the option to install along side XP.  I also tried PCLOS KDE and the install option to install along side XP was there.  Am I missing something?  I am using 2010.10  versions of both Gnome and KDE.

Have you done a verification check on your downloaded ISO just to make sure its a good one.?

There are newer ones out as well - 2010.12 - which will help when updating as it'll be be much smaller download.
PCLinuxOS 32bit KDE 4.10.4; kernel-3.4.11-pclos1.bfs & 64bit 3.4.38bfs; NVidia GeForce 8400GS 1GB 310.19 driver

I will get the latest and try that.  Thanks for bringing it to my attention.

If it doesn't add it automatically, install, then when you reboot, open the Control Center, choose Boot from the left menu, then Set up Boot Menu, and select Next to the 2nd window, and add it there. It'll usually be sda1, sometimes sda2 if you have a restore partition. All done thru gui, and pretty simple. My netbook had this issue, due to the XP restore partition I assume (never bothered doing anything about it), but was very easy to add it to bootloader this way and worked perfectly. :)
There is no shame in saying "I don't know".

I'm hoping the 2010.12 version of PCLOS Gnome will have the option to install along side XP.  If not, I will have to go the route you have suggested.

Thanks, Bullitt

2011 DOES have that option, I've installed it on several machines, but I've had this same prob with the KDE version occasionally also. Totally random, and odd, but it seems to happen on occasion, and it not seem to see the XP install during install. Nothing specific to the Gnome.

I have PCLOS gnome (Zen-mini) installed alongside XP on three different computers currently. Never had a problem yet.
This aggression will not stand man.
