Connecting PCLinuxOS to my windows home server and printer?
« on: December 16, 2010, 01:04:54 PM »
I just installed the OS and updated everything on it.

What I am trying to do is access my shared folder on my WHS.  I have it mounted under /mnt/data but there is nothing listed under the directory.

Also I have a printer hooked up to my WHS, HP Laserjet P1006, which I have shared but am not sure how to share it in Linux.

If you could help me out that would be grand.
PC - Intel i7 3930k 6 Core CPU, 32GB Quad Channel RAM, Gigabyte x79 Motherboard, ATI 7990 Video Card

Hey IceDigger, welcome to the forum
I don't have any experience with Windows Home Server, but I'm willing to pitch in here.

first off try editing /etc/nsswitch.conf and look for a line similar to this:

hosts:      mdns4_minimal files nis dns wins mdns4

and change it to read like this:

hosts:      mdns4_minimal files nis wins dns mdns4

Note that wins now comes before dns.

As a first check for finding the windows share click on the PC button select Internet and SMBK4 you should be anble to see the server in the Network Neighbourhood, clicking on the server nave should show you the shares associated with it and allow you to mount them.

To configure your printer goto the PCC (Screwdriver and Spanner/Wrench in a blue circle) select Hardware and then Setup the printers etc

Let us know how you get on

Regards
Andy
