Update disaster - Synaptic frozen [Solved]

So he logged in with ssh and did it!

Seriously, my guess would be a full / partition. 5GB can fill up fast if you add lots of applications, view videos (/tmp files), remaster, run backups etc.

It was a 90MB download - and the / partition has 5GB available after synaptic gave the error .... I dunno.

He obviously and immediately realised that one answer will not do it - AT ALL .  I need a lot more attention in order to, at least, basically comprehend what he is trying to tell me.

So don't be envious of my dumbness ....

Well - that was it.  Did that, restarted, synaptic re-downloaded and installed and all went well.

So what happened?  Heck knows ....
