ecomorph not starting

new install, did all updates etc

laptop with onboard radeon:

01:00.0 VGA compatible controller: ATI Technologies Inc RV350 [Mobility Radeon 9600 M10]

everything else works with drivers.  i have dropshadow and compositing turned off. 

here is what i get:

[peter@localhost ~]$ ecomorph
ecomorph (core) - Fatal: GLX_EXT_texture_from_pixmap is missing
ecomorph (core) - Error: Failed to manage screen: 0
ecomorph (core) - Fatal: No manageable screens found on display :0.0
[peter@localhost ~]

is it possible the compositing is still on even though it says it isn't?

To start ecomorph log out of e17, change the session in gdm to e17-ecomorph and login again.
