How can I end a livecd session in a normal way ?
« on: December 09, 2010, 04:15:45 AM »
I am using a PCLinuxOS 2009 LXDE Remastered livecd file, that starts from hard disk via Unetbootin ( or Grub4dos ) .
When I want to leave or restart the system, it just stops after the line "INIT : no more processes left in this run level", after which I have to switch off or restart the PC manually .
How can I fix this, so that this happens automatically, just as if it were a Real Live CD in a CD-Rom player ?

hello and welcome to the forum

2009 lxde was replaced by a newer version, have you tested it?

No I didn't . The remaster I made, already contains all the special programs I need, I don't want to start all over again .
I tried other PCLOS distributions, and after having installed everything all over again, my experience was it didn't work properly .
You could say my philosophy is : don't change a winning team .  Furthermore, new distributions are often made for newer, stronger computers .
Both my working PC and backup PC are 8 (eight) years old, so ... That's why I like Puppy so much, it is happy with low resources .

the version i mentioned should be friendly with your hardware

the version you are using is basically abandoned because 2009 repos doesn't exist now afik but since you use it as livecd it shouldn't be a problem

the thing is that it seems that nobody is using a old remastered version, as you see nobody else answered and no idea how to help you with this particular situation

how old is your hardware?

8 (eight) years old . What is the full name of the version you are referring to ?
Maybe I'll give it a try ....

UNetbootin has this problem when used with PCLinuxOS. If you still have the iso, you can use the PCLinuxOS-liveusb tool available in the repos to create the LiveUSB stick. This tool creates a LiveUSB stick that can have multiple distributions of PCLOS. The first one installed will also have a persistent mode. Another solution if you don't have PCLOS currently installed is to use the Universal USB Installer available on this page.

On the other hand, why don't you use PCLinuxOS LXDE 2010.10, the one that T6 suggested?

There is a full and a light version available, and they are both superb. (Thanks to Neal :D) The light version is light on programs installed, but both are lightning fast on even old machines. For remastering, the light version might be more useful, since you'll be able to choose your own custom software.

Try adding the "fromusb" boot code to the boot stanza ......  or better yet use the native PCLOS tool for creating the live USB ....  and you can create multiple partitions on the device before you install and use any one of them ....  provided it is formatted as ext2 or ext3.
