Disabling the default network manager for WICD [solved]
« on: December 07, 2010, 09:02:12 PM »
Hey guys.

What service do I disable to prevent the drak tools from hijacking my network card?
I've found that WICD seems to work best with my WIFI, so I've been trying to use that, however the drak network tools want to INSIST that dhcp gets used for my static IP connection (causing me much grief)

I've been putting up with this for a few months, but I just spent a full half hour trying to get things to run smoothly.

I've removed, completely, the settings from drakroam and friends, so it does NOT have any configuration data for my networks, WICD does, yet it INSISTS on trying to grab a DHCP address from my network after WICD authenticates.

Thanks!

GRAH

Facepalm time.

This has been bothering me for literally months.

I tried disabling the "network" service in pcc, and rebooting to see what would happen.

Seems it was "network" and "wicd" services battling head to head.  WICD is now the running network manager, my wifi runs smooth as silk, and the frustrations i've had with connecting to WIFI networks is gone, at last!

Just submitting my solution here for the world to see!
