Thanks for your help.

With ZenMini the pps does not sound, pulseaudio is enabled  :(. With Wine and pptview the pps sound is ok.

Phoenix Mini like all the mini versions is lightweight and not configured like it's big sister ... i would try running alsconf as root in a terminal window ...

OK

and ensure that your mixer settings are setup via the sound applet near the clock ...

OK

as you may find that things are set to mute and you didnt realise

OK

Thanks for your help, everything seems fine but the sound of the pps is not ok.  :(

I think this is a known problem with sound in openoffice.

I did read where someone had some "luck" after installing some gstreamer plugins - they had names with good, bad and ugly in them (spaghetti wester fan I guess  ;) )

Okay, found some in the repo

gstreamer0.10-plugins-bad-doc
gstreamer0.10-plugins-bad-examples
gstreamer0.10-plugins-good
gstreamer0.10-plugins-ugly

and possibly install

gstreamer0.10-pulse

as well

Another option would be see if you have any luck with LibreOffice as there is now a script in the repos named lomanager which will download and install it for you, and will, I believe, remove the existing openoffice prior to the LibreOffice installation.

I'm running LibreOffice and sound is very good.

Have you tried more than one file to see whether its something wrong with the file itself. There is a post by ms_meme which has a pps file with sound in it (happy birthday pclinuxos ) and can be downloaded if you want to test it.

I have found that it depends on how the file was made rather than completely the fault of OOo.

Yup - that was part of the reason I suggested trying another file.

Ah - apols coco.  Its in the testing section.

Just in case you are not use to adding that section - open Synaptic and in the Sections line add testing to it so it reads:

main updates nonfree kde4 games testing

Then do a reload etc........

Note - as its in the testing section there may possibly be some "issues" with it (which is why its put in the testing section for it to be tested prior to it going to the "main" repo section) but I have used it and it worked fine for me.

Do any of the default LibreOffice sounds play when you have Slide Transitions open in the Task Panel my panels on the r/hand side as seen in the screen shot below.

The second screen shot is of the La Haut movie (mp4) which as you can see plays fine with good sound.
