g'morning,
has anyone had success downloading youtube vids?
tried cac (catch and convert), and ytd - i get an error every time, even tried a few different vids in case it was some protection-issue.

i'd love to be able to download/convert some music vids.
any ideas?

ps, here's the one that made me wanna look into it:
Soft Machine (with Allan Holdsworth) (UK)

mid-70s Allan Holdsworth, guitar trailblazer extrodinaire. enjoy.

Hello. You can try using this firefox add-on https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/addon/3006 .Or maybe youtube-dl or youtube-downloader from the repos. You can use mmc or pytube to convert the videos or pclinuxos-flv-player to convert to audio. httpripper is another option for downloading videos. The firefox add-on I posted however should have a conversion option to make it a bit easier. Hope this helped.

If you watched it, it's already been downloaded. Look in your /tmp directory for a file starting with Flash<some mixed characters>. If there are more than one, play each with a video player, to see which is the one you want, and rename it to whatever you wish. You can then move it to any directory of your choosing, to save it.

Of what use be there for joy, if not for the sharing thereof?

I can see this file increasing by size while the video is playing.

There is a plugin for FireFox named "Download Helper" that can help save various types of files on your disk.

You'll probably get umpteen suggestions as lots of people have their favourites.

I use the Firefox addon Flash Video Downloader which puts an icon on the main toolbar and when a Youtube (or wherever) download is available the icon turns blue aand its just a matter of clicking the icon and choosing what you want it downloaded as FLV, MP4 etc.

If its downloaded and I want to keep only the music from it I use the repo app named pacpl to "convert" it to mp3 or ogg etc (although a "conversion" takes place you still have the original FLV/MP4 file to watch if you want.

Another very simple way is finding the file (which is automatically downloaded by Firefox without using any Download apps ) in your tmp folder or it can also be in your .mozilla/firefox/xxxxxdefault/cache folder - it will usually have a file name like 970E5d01xb4 or similar - and you can then rename/convert it at leisure.

Yup - it's interesting to see how fast some download compared to others when watching the MB size increase.

I've already searched for "YouTube Downloader" in the Chrome extension gallery. There is no "YouTube Downloader" extension.

this opens up HUGE possibilities for me - thanks again,
