Streaming Online Radio Feeds
« on: December 05, 2010, 08:10:52 AM »
Have been trying and failing to configure both Clementine Media Player and VLC Media Player to play online radio streams. Has anyone had any success doing this? Would really appreciate any help and/or advice.

No hassle ......  what's the problem?

I do notice that the gstreamer backend seems to be missing a 'smil' plugin .......  or so my install reports.
So stations which use this are not apparently playable using gstreamer at present.

regards.

I use VLC to listen to on-line radio all the time.
I listen to sky.fm and they want you to listen using the browser so it took a little fiddling to use VLC but it wasn't too complicated.

Try this just to see if it works for you:
Click on the Media tab then click on the Streaming tab then click on the Network tab.

In the enter URL section try entering:

http://www.sky.fm/mp3/the80s.pls

See if that works for you.

The Sky link works great! Shall keep on the lookout for more online radio links.

I really enjoy listening to online radio but from what i have read in a computer magazine i think it's going to get even harder unless you use the browser. Here's a link to read about it if you are interested http://www.ukradioplayer.info

Big thanks Neo

Neo,
I think maybe you meant the following for VLC

Media - Open Network Stream .......  and copy the URL into the space provided, and press play at the bottom.

The "Streaming" section is for streaming out your own content.

....  just to clarify ......  ;)

Can RadioTray play this stream?

http://www.clare.fm/node/7

I get an error that gstreamer is missing a plugin  :(

Same for a number of others I would listen to.

I save the links to the harddrive and then rename to what I want.... 50s 60s 70s.pls

Then double-click on them and Clementine plays them.
