Google Earth
« on: December 04, 2010, 06:29:35 PM »
After the last round of updates, googleearth won't open. From terminal shows this:

./googleearth-bin: symbol lookup error: /usr/lib/libphonon.so.4: undefined symbol: _ZN9QMetaType15registerTypedefEPKci

Hello,

I just did an update tonight and noticed new NVIDIA drivers were downloaded / installed.
Everything looks fine (so far) but when I try to launch Google Earth (via terminal), the following was displayed:

Code: [Select]
Version mismatch detected between the NVIDIA libGL.so
and libnvidia-glcore.so. shared libraries (libGL.so version:
260.19.29; libnvidia-glcore.so. version: 260.19.36).
Please try reinstalling the NVIDIA driver.Google Earth has caught signal 11.

We apologize for the inconvenience, but Google Earth has crashed.
This is a bug in the program, and should never happen under normal
circumstances. A bug report and debugging data have been written
 to this text file:

    /home/auser/.googleearth/crashlogs/crashlog-4d608c57.txt

Please include this file if you submit a bug report will to Google.

I'm just wondering why it's asking to reinstall the NVIDIA drivers when they were just downloaded and installed. ???

Anyways, could I please get detailed help with this, please?

Thank you.

Highlighted in red the version mismatch, something is wrong in your nvidia driver installation.

^^ That seems clear.

So, how exactly do I solve this problem?
Do I reinstall everything in Synaptic with "nvidia" on it?
Is there a file (or files) I need to edit or delete somewhere? ???

Have you rebooted since the video driver update?

Thanks to everyone who donates. You keep the servers running.

Yes, I reboot every time I finish running Synaptic updates (force of habit from Windows, it seems).

x11-driver-video-nvidia-current

install
dkms-nvidia-current 260.19.36
x11-driver-video-nvidia-current 260.19.36

reboot

Hi Tex,

I did exactly the steps you wrote. But Google Earth still doesn't launch. Same error message on the terminal:

Code: [Select]
Version mismatch detected between the NVIDIA libGL.so
and libnvidia-glcore.so. shared libraries (libGL.so version:
260.19.29; libnvidia-glcore.so. version: 260.19.36).

Hi plankton172,

I did the same upgrade, without problems, try the following command, and let us know what is wrong in your installation:

from a root console:

ls -l /usr/lib/*/libGL.*
