Which version of PCLinuxOS are you running. For instance in KDE you could just use drag and drop and click "Link Here" to create a symbolic link. Or you could hold down Ctrl and Shift while you are doing the dragging and dropping.

Or you could open the folder and right-click somewhere in it, choose "Create New" and pick the sort of link you want to create.

It used to be easier, but after some trouble that the site had with spammers I think you have to give an Internet address, select it in your message and click one of the tiny icons to "Insert Flash", "Insert Image", "Insert Hyperlink", "Insert Email" or "Insert FTP Link".
