Version information
Version  10.70
Build      6396
Platform Linux
System  i686, 2.6.33.5-pclos1.bfs

Browser identification
Opera/9.80 (X11; Linux i686; U; en) Presto/2.6.30 Version/10.70

Where did you get that version of Opera? I don't recognise it as being the version available via synaptic from the PCLOS repos.

Edit: As far as I know 10.7 is a Beta version. Opera says...

;D well done. My topic ended up being a bit of lesson in what can happen if you stray outside synaptic for too long? I had almost forgotten that I was running v 10.70 which I think I may have obtained via Synaptic at a short time when it was available  but within short time complaints arose from members and I believe it was removed going back to v 10.63. I found the version 10.70 works particularly well for me (only lately have I conceded to use flash player) until I now see that I have a missing element.

When I posted the information you refer to,  my suspicion awakened to the version number and when I luckily noticed that Bald Brick has a slightly different result when showing his ls -l of the flash file I got really interested.

General
As I also have an install of MiniMe 2010.07 fully updated KDE 4.5.2 with Opera 10.70, I started MiniMe and confirmed that Opera had the same problem with flash. I use the MiniMe mainly for testing at present so I decided to re-install Opera which resulted in Opera 10.63 being installed. When doing the ls -l on the flash file I got exactly the same as Bald Brick earlier.  At this stage I was pretty sure you people very likely was running Opera 10.63.

Since I have updated the MiniMe to KDE 4.5.3 expecting this to fix the Opera problem.  I re-installed Opera 10.63 but I still have problems with flash on that system. Asking me to update Adobe Flashplayer.  I do get a message about failing symlink:

Quote
While installing package flash-player-plugin-10.1.102.64-1pclos2010:

ln: creating symbolic link `/usr/lib/xulrunner-1.9.2.12/plugins/libflashplayer.so': No such file or directory
error: %post(flash-player-plugin-10.1.102.64-1pclos2010.i586) scriptlet failed, exit status 1

I am not sure this is important as I do not know the purpose of xulrunner, something Mozilla related I think.

Solution
Finally after I was pointed in the right direction as to download Mirrors I downloaded MiniMe 2010.10 ran it up and just installed Opera 10.63, and this works like a charm running flash based videos. I can of course immediately re-install MiniMe but I am a bit relcuctant as I am not going to learn much from doing that. So I may just pursue a fix to see why re-installing Opera 10.63, or downgrading Opera to 10.63 on what looks like a perfectly updated MiniMe KDE 4.5.2 to 4.5.3 fails?

Any suggestions as what I should look at based on following sequence?

1.. Fully Updated, lightly customised MiniMe KDE 4.5.2 with Opera 10.70
2.. Reinstalled Opera wheich went to Opera 10.63 plus the Xulrunner error
3.. Fully updated MiniMe to KDE 4.5.3
4.. Re-installed Opera 10.63 --> Opera 10.63

Opera will not run flash videos from you-tube, and I don't know if anything else is not working. Perhaps some configuration file is kept over when re-installing without completely removing Opera First  ???

I installed my Opera Browser in a bog standard PCLOS Gnome installation so all the plugins were already installed and Flash just worked in Opera without having to configure anything.

You're trying to build up a system from various parts and heaven knows how much coffee you're drinking  ;)

I'm guessing (not absolutely sure) but I think task-multimedia was the relevant package in Gnome which did all the groundwork for a trouble free Opera experience.

I also have a pristine Gnome install but from memory when I looked at installing Opera here it pulled in a massive amount of software so I did not proceed despite being absolute Opera biased. Since that Gnome now no longer is an updated version I might just se what hapens if I ask to have Opera installed.

I would say no, I am not trying to build a system from various parts.  The parts got out of sync in MiniMe when I decided to re-install Opera which was 'downgraded' I then updated to the latest KDE 4.5.3.  I do not see this as a big change, more as an interesting challenge. [which I can drop at any time, but I am far too inquisitve for my own good]

The coffee suply is always kept 'updated, no problem here  ;D

What is as task-item I have seen various task-xxx mentioned. ???

You're sure?  I installed Opera on a Phoenix mini and it installed - well - just Opera ....

Depends on how diligent you scrutinise the install I think. In Synaptic you will only see one file in "standard view" I looked at dependencies and the list made me take note.
Then just before the last "Apply" I see that 12 new programs needs to be installed and 35 MB required. I am not sure but I think Opera is about 12-15 MB so that is an extra 20 MB.  Which is a less than I expected, from memory I saw 80 last time, but not sure which install it was in, at the time I was going through a number of different installs.

I have now installed Opera 10.63 in the Gnome older version and using it to access Forum. Also it works fine playing you-tube  test video.  :D

Just did a test with a LiveCD. I installed Opera (via synaptic) on a non-updated system. Opera runs and plays YouTube Flash fine.

I then did a "Mark for complete removal" uninstall of Opera. The user's .opera (hidden) configuration folder remains in user's home directory so it might help to delete this if trying to reinstall Opera. if you've run Opera as root then there will also be .opera folder in root's home.

PS. task packages are metapackages. In synaptic look at Section Tasks or search with task.

Pity your message just missed reaching me before I vandalised my MiniMe install. Right now I happen to be in the older Gnome version where I have Opera working just fine including Flash.

In my MiniMe I decided to do a complete removal of Opera, assuming this would delete the .opera but I did not check unfortunately. So the re-install failed to to solve the problem. Since I can not focus properly on computing here in summertime, I have Installed the LiveCD MiniMe 2010.10 and Opera, which of course works like a charm.

From you information I will assume that If I had checked and deleted the .opera I would have made a successful Opera downgrade to 10.63.   8)

Note to myself: Notice that Opera v. 10.70 back in Synaptic and Flash works for playing video, provided I see tick for Enable Plugins in the shortcut to preferences (F12 key).
