Oh found it just went to the repo and typed xfce4. Sometimes things are just too easy.

where exactly did you type it? how did you upgrade?

This thing should be a sticky "How to Upgrade from XFCE 4.6 to XFCE 4.8"

I installed of the latest  pclinux phoenix livecd (march 2011) and did regular updates. I thought i got xfce 4.8 but no. I needed to add the xfce to the repo section to get xfce 4.8.

This is a little quirky. i also have a box with lxde - Do we need to 'lxde' to the the repo section as well?

LXDE is fairly stable. XFCE 4.8 has some bugs I don't like. When they are fixed, the XFCE 4.8 packages will be moved into updates. Being the nice guy that I am I put the 4.8 packages up in a separate area for those who might want to use them fully aware they might not be 100% ready for primetime.

No good deed goes unpunished!  :)

There are obviously folk present in here who do not understand the development/release process fully, nor read every single post most diligently as required by their membership?!  ???

Feel free to take any personal frustration out on those bugs won't you.
Thanks big boss.

As much as I want XFCE 4.8 I know that Texstar has our best interests in mind in not it being available in Updates at this particular point in time.  Yeah watch (with my lack of luck:)) within a day or two a 2011.06 or 07 XFCE Phoenix Edition with XFCE 4.8 will be released - lol!

Good things take time and effort in which Texstar and his development group donate so then we can enjoy the fruits of such is how I see it.

One thing that "puzzles" me is why PCLinuxOS is not higher up in the Distrowatch standings than it is?

Maybe some people only love .deb distros? ???

Anyway, we know what great a distro family is PCLinuxOS. ;D

I wish I could have gotten an answer on their forum but hey I can wait for fixes.

We already been number one once so been there and done that. To be honest it is more fun today.

2007 is a bit long ago, plenty of Texas BBQ's were had since - lol!

But like you said it's more fun now and their loss if they don't see this family of distros to be higher regarded.

OH YEAH your page: Sniff-sniff KDE 3. ;D

Dear Texstar,

I'm afraid PCLinuxOS for the past 7 days as of 7-1-2011 has been number 1 per the snapshot below, so is it less "fun" now? :P ;D

Congrats! ;)
