« on: June 05, 2011, 04:45:37 PM »
Why after installing I don't get the same panel and backround as I see in livecd mode?
How can  I get it?
Thx

What DE?

Did you update before you saw the change?

Artwork has changed since most of the latest .iso's were released so with an updated system, it is to be expected.

What specifically is different?

First of all thank you for replying!

When I run the live-usb installation I have a lovely top-pannel and a bottom pannel with the 4 boxes for the different desktops, besides a really nice backround in the desktop with phinx written on it.

After installation to the hdd I have nothing of this, just a blue dektop with my folders and an empty pannel.

I´d love to have the same as in live-cd.

Any help will be much appreciated  ;)

A missing panel can sometimes occur after installation. You can recreate it. In
XFCE 4.8, like in KDE, you now have the ability to lock it in place.

Basically what both desktop environments share is an extensible and modular desktop. Everything can be built up as desired from different components.

NormanF,
To quote Denzel Washington from one of his movies, "talk to me like I'm a 5 year old".  How exactly do you recreate the top and bottom bars?  Sorry for the Newbie type question.  Thanks

ranran,

If you have "Show Application Menu on Desktop Right Click" under Xfce Settings Manager > Desktop > Menus checked, you can right click on your desktop, and select "Run Program..." Enter "xfce4-panel" (without the quotes) and your panels should reappear ... and survive a reboot.

All,
I found this post in the Forum and it worked for me.  Both upper and lower bars are back. All that is left is to see if they survive a reboot.  Thank You Parnote.

it sounds as though you used a shared home directory where your old settings will not work ... Phinx needs a nice new home partition ... or you could copy the contents of the /etc/skel folder to your /home/your user/ folder
