<Solved>PSU ATX 12v case Connector Question.

I'm changing out my PSU. My mother board has a 4 pin ATX 12v case connector. Old PSU had a 4 pin connector so perfect fit. New PSU has 6 pin. It will work if I just leave one set hang outside the connector. Does that sound OK? It will plug in that way and the wire colors do match up just have an extra set of yellow and black on the new PSU cable that don't plug in.

old 4 pin has two 12V lines and ground
new i don't remember what it has, this depends on the psu, check manual online, some mainboards say that fit connector and leave the rest on the air but be sure before burning cpu or mainboard/psu

Thank you. Got it. Actually I had the wrong connector. It was an 8pin connector that separates to two connectors one not used.

the 6 pin connector is for new video cards asking for more power
the other you mention is the new one for cpus with high power usage, i7 and phenoms when required by the mainboard
in this coolermaster model the names are explained

edit: i gave you wrong information, this connector is only for intel, on amd you can connect 4 of the eight according to the shape of the connector, i know you already solved it but wrong information is dangerous, sorry
anyway, check manuals is handy sometimes
